Grizzland Young Birds (2005)

My Young Birds - Season 2005

I joined the NRRPS in Langley BC to fly my 2005 team of young birds. I started with 14 flyers mostly from my breeders' 1st clutch. Six emergency back up flyers were trained in event of smash. Dark system was not used. Loftfly twice a day, Road training 20km twice a week. Preparation was probably not enough of physical activities to fly competitive racing but it was all the time I could spare. I just trusted their homing instinct and their bloodline to fly and try their best effort.

July 23, 2005 - My first race from HOPE slide, BC (75 miles). I sent 13 birds and placed 19th, 20th, 21st, 29th and 52nd. The birds SRY-259, SRY-253 and PFR 603 were in one drop. 7 more birds within the regulation time and 3 birds after clock out. All daybird.

July 30, 2005 - My second race from Bell Creek, BC (110 miles). I sent 14 birds and placed 20th, 24th, 39th, 52nd and 72nd. Three (3) birds flew in one drop. POR 05 5131268 was my 1st bird. I experienced a fancier's woe for trapping late.

August 06, 2005 - My third race from Keremeos, BC (140 miles). I sent 12 birds and placed 20th, 42nd, 43rd, 58th and 65th. POR 05 5131268 was my 1st bird again. An overfly dark-chq bird with an orange eband got in my way to trap early 2nd bird and 3rd bird. Over 10 minutes time wasted on the roof top.

August 13, 2005 - My fourth race from Midway, BC (185 miles). I sent 11 birds and placed 23rd, 36th, 41st, 50th and 51st. POR 05 5131268 was my 1st bird the 3rd time. PFR 603 trapped 2nd. All birds arrived within the regulation time except for a very small grizzle.

August 20, 2005 - My fifth race from Stewart Creek, BC (210 miles). I sent 10 birds and placed 16th, 28th, 47th and 48th. I lost POR 05 5131268, the only bird lost from my team. PFR 603 homed 1st.

August 27, 2005 - My sixth race was from Fruitvale, BC (240 miles). I sent 9 birds and placed 56th, 57th and 76th. I had a bad race today. I believe it was my feed mixed experimentation that failed to work. All birds lost their balance and carried extra weight not needed. Regardless of this fault on my part, PFR 603 and SRY 259 won versus their teammates. All team members homed daybird.

September 11, 2005 - My last race from Yahk, BC (310 miles) did not materialize. The weather in YAHK was very poor on Sept 10, 2005 and Sept 11, 2005. The birds in the truck close to 3 days in the basket were returned and liberated at BELL CREEK station for open clock racing. I had a very good sprint race considering all my birds were coming back to the direction of the Burns Bog Fire. burning bogsMy 1st bird flewby few minutes before dropping and hesitated for few more minutes before trapping same goes with my 2nd and 3rd bird. I clocked 7/9 birds and placed 33rd, 39th, 41st, 66th, 114th, 176th, 221st.

At the end of my young bird 2005 season, four(4) of my team won 10th, 13th, 20th and 26th on the 1st page of "Champion Young Bird".
