About Oana & Dominic

Dom and Oana met in the fall of 1997. She was smitten with his ruggedly handsome good looks and his impeccable knowledge of literary terms (such as “juxtaposition”). He was impressed with her sense of style and remembers what she was wearing the first time he saw her (yes, she was wearing overalls, but it was the 90s, and she was young for god's sakes!) After a lengthy period of  subtle flirtation, Dom and Oana started dating in 1998 and have been joined at the hip ever since.

In August of 2003, Dom and Oana took a road-trip to California. All was going well, though Dom appeared stressed and nervous throughout the trip despite the beautiful scenery and the copious amounts of California wine which they were ingesting. Being on a student budget, Dom and Oana camped their way through to San Francisco where, without Oana’s knowledge, Dom arranged for a beautiful hotel room. After a wonderful dinner, and more wine, Dom and Oana strolled down Pier 39, at the end of which Dom dropped to one knee and proposed with a beautiful ring. Oana squealed, and cried and said “Yes!”, after which Dom romantically asked her to “Put it on, damn it!” (being on a Pier, Dom had visions of the ring being accidentally dropped into the water and was anxious to place it securely on Oana’s finger). Oana later found out that Dom could not enjoy the early stages of the trip, as he had conveniently hidden the ring in the car where Oana would not find it, and was terrified that, along the way, the car would be stolen and his proposal plan ruined. Oana however, had been having an obliviously wonderful time.

Yes, that’s right, Dom and Oana will have been engaged for almost 3 years before actually getting married, despite the fact that they knew early on that they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together. However, their busy schedules did not allow for an earlier wedding. To compensate, Dom and Oana are taking the entire summer of 2006 off, getting married, and having a lengthy two-month honeymoon traveling through Europe (after which they promise to return, get real jobs, move off the UBC campus and grow-up already…or maybe just move off campus).

Shortly before their wedding, both are completing seven-year stints at the University of British Columbia, after which Dominic will be a structural engineer (and finally qualified to build the Lower Mainland’s new Oana Bridge…projected completion 2015) and Oana will be a lawyer (finally qualified to be critical, combative, and stubborn).
