Obituaries are
the few final written words that provide glimpses into the lives of ordinary
people and allow us to look at our own lives and times. The notices selected
for this collection indicate that there are no ordinary people.
There are many ways to say farewell - from formal funeral services to
private home-setting celebrations. They all form part of the way we say
goodbye. Obituaries or death notices however, are a public way to share a
final farewell celebration.
MaryEllen was interviewed on radio programs from
Newfoundland to Vancouver Island, including Peter Gzowski's national
"Morningside" show. She was also featured on CBC's "What on Earth" TV
program and on German television where she was paired with a European
collector of obituaries.
MaryEllen was a keynote speaker at annual general
meetings of the B.C. Funeral Directors and the Alberta Funeral Directors
and she has addressed chambers of commerce and bereavement associations.
