Do you often wonder why one person likes one colour and another prefers another? This could well be because your choice of colour could be influenced by your personality depending on which sign of the Zodiac you were born under. If you've ever wondered about the expression "like a red flag to a bull", it makes quite a lot of sense when you consider that red is a color that can arouse anger, particularly in those born under the sign of Taurus, i.e. the Bull. For this reason, it is quite important that we try to live with the colors which best suit our personalities. It makes for a more contented, happier and healthier life. Following is a fairly light-hearted interpretation of the colour best suited to your horoscope:

ARIES - The Ram - March 21 to April 20

Aries is the first sign of the Zodiac and this tends to make people born under this sign natural leaders. Look for lots of Red in the Arien home, which personifies their active, energetic and often competitive lifestyle. Ariens like high ceilings, open spaces, so loft living is ideal. Simple furniture would sit on attractive wood flooring and light would stream in through an abundance of large, clear windows. An exercise room can often be found in the Arien household.

TAURUS - The Bull - April 21 to May 21

Taurus people are happiest in comfortable, familiar surroundings and they tend to dream about, or do own their own home. The tempestuous bull is calmed by the colour of the sky - all shades of BLUE, from powder to indigo; also rose and pink in a lesser way, but never, of course red. As well, the GREENS and BROWNS of nature calm and soothe the Taurean, who has a love of nature and gardening. The Taurus person will also have a love of art, music and beautiful things that will likely be harmoniously displayed in the home.

GEMINI - The Twins - May 21 to June 21

The Gemini character is mercurial. They become quickly bored by routine and frequently change jobs, clothes, and surroundings. On the other hand, they are immensely gifted, sensitive and have a very persuasive charm. Clear YELLOWS, GREENS and BLUES, plus the mercurial silvers and grays appeal to most Gemini people. Look to a bright, open house where fabrics, wall colors and accessories are changed with the seasons. Gemini people tend not to have too many attachments, so don't expect the home to be filled with antiques or objects kept for their sentimental value. Much more suited to the Gemini character would be well-designed and fairly simple contemporary furnishings including dual-purpose pieces so that they can easily ring the changes from time to time.

CANCER - The Crab - June 22 to July 23

Unlike Gemini people, Cancers have a love of the past, and this is mostly reflected in the comfortable, if cluttered, Cancerian home which will be full of antiques, books and bric-a-brac. Because they are ruled by the moon, they suffer from mood swings that ebb and flow like the tide. So it's the opalescent moon colours, too, which the Cancerian finds the most restful and suited to their personality. These are primarily GREEN (sea green), along with shimmering SILVER or GOLDS. They are the most home-loving of all the signs, and also have a great love of food, so the kitchen and dining room is important in the Cancer home.

LEO - The Lion - July 24 to Aug. 23

Just as the lion rules the animal kingdom, Leo people tend to rule the roost, so to speak. Mostly extroverted, they like living it up in the high spots or entertaining in grand style with plenty of good food, fine wines and soft music. The color which appeals most to those born under his sign is AMBER - which, incidentally, is also their gemstone. ORANGE, through to a FIERY RED, also are colours befitting the LEO character which of itself is colourful. The Leo style of living is possibly more to impress than one to totally relax in.

VIRGO - The Virgin - Aug. 24 to Sept. 23

DOVE GREY AND PURE, PRISTINE WHITE are the colours for people born under this sign. Being tidy in mind and manner, extremely precise, with a place for everything and few frills and fantasies, this will most likely be seen in classic designs in the home. The home of a Virgo should always be very low-keyed in terms of colour, for to surround a Virgo with wild, bright colors is to disturb their quiet, inner nature. The popular neutral schemes of today are probably ideal settings for people born under this sign, for along with white, they relate to pale grays and the beige tones of brown.

LIBRA - The Scales - Sept. 24 to Oct. 23

Libran's are good natured and pleasant half the time, stubborn and restless the rest. They are often artistic and love the harmony of sounds, colours, poetry and words. Because of the need to balance the scales and create harmony, the Libran hates clashing color schemes, so PASTELS are preferred, particularly soft GREENS, BLUES AND MAUVES. Furnishings will be in good taste and the ambience will be soft and mellow in the Libra home. Music, interesting conversation, good food and fine wines will also be a part of it, in fact, a beautiful oasis from the jangling sounds outside.

SCORPIO - The Scorpion - Oct. 24 to Nov. 22

Scorpios have a strong, often forceful, yet magnetic personality and the colors which most appeal are the strong, deep reds, i.e. CRIMSON, along with rich BLUE, VIOLET or INDIGO tones. Scorpio's like to surround themselves with luxury and take great pride in their homes, having good taste and enjoying comfort. A Scorpio hates any form of deception, so furniture would likely be chosen for its honesty and purity of design. Because of the preferred, deep colours, the overall effect of the décor would tend to be somewhat sensuous and dramatic.

SAGITTARIUS - The Archer - Nov. 23 to Dec. 21

Sagittarians have a love of travel and the outdoors - perhaps a touch of the gypsy in them. They like bold, bright colours, particularly BLUES, MAUVES and PURPLES, more often than not mixed in colourful pattern-on-pattern fabrics, especially paisleys. Their homes will be cheerful and down to earth, probably somewhat eclectic rather than modern and sophisticated. Casual furniture would be heaped with cushions and the home somewhat cluttered with trophies and mementoes of travel and far off places. Fortunate colors also for the Sagittarian are GREENS and YELLOWS, so they have quite a range to choose from.

CAPRICORN - The Goat - Dec. 22 to Jan. 20

Those born under the sign of Capricorn go through life with fairly calm, deliberate actions. Like the goat, they don't rush, but always manage to get there in the end because of their sure-footedness. Capricorn people are happiest wearing dark colours - BLACK, BROWN, NAVY or OLIVE GREEN, and enjoy working or living in surroundings where the walls are dark or paneled. This is not to say that people born under this sign are sombre in any way, although they do tend to be somewhat conservative and conventional in appearance. The Capricorn home is more likely to be traditional than ultra modern. Furnishings tend towards the elegant, with a harmonious use of colour and style. Translated into the home these colors might be reflected in black lacquered Oriental furniture, perhaps some Chippendale pieces, and maybe dark green walls offset with one or two well-selected paintings.

AQUARIUS - The Water Bearer - Jan. 21 to Feb. 19

Aquarians are the ones who are often ahead of our time and love to try something new, whether it's a fad in clothing, home furnishings or other. Sometimes this is even for shock value. So expect the unexpected. But when it comes to colour, they will likely be quite subdued, for the colors best suited to Aquarians are INDIGO, a dark, GRAYISH BLUE, and BLACK - the color of Saturn - which is fortunate for those born under this sign. Monochromatic colour schemes appeal to the Aquarian, rather than contrasting colours.

PISCES - The Fish - Feb. 20 to March 20

Many artistic people are born under the sign of Pisces - actors, dramatists, musicians and painters. The female Pisces is truly feminine and the colours she is happiest with will be predominantly PASTEL. Of these, the TURQUOISE BLUE or SEA GREEN shades of the ocean will be seen most frequently. WHITE is also fortunate to those born under the Pisces sign and, to a lesser degree GREY. In combination, the new shades of blue - pewter or slate - could well be attractive to Pisces. The Pisces home will likely be eclectic reflecting the artistic temperament, and will be filled with lots of art and bric-a-brac.
