Our product lines include the environmentally responsible Biosafe 100% degradable garbage bags with exclusive patented Trioxo-d technology.  Click here to read more information about TDPA™ (Totally Degradable Plastic Additives) products: http://www.epi-global.com/

We are proud to be able to provide consumers with an environmentally friendly, cost effective, and alternative to traditional non-degradable plastic without compromising performance or characteristics until the triggering of the degradation process begins.

Recognizing there existed an additional worldwide demand for high quality more environmentally responsible products, we launched our Buffalo Bag Premium line containing recycled plastic without sacrificing the quality or strength characteristics consumers and end users expect.

Degraded Plastic BagOur BioSafe garbage bag product will degrade in landfills, photo-degrade (through exposure to sunlight) in city streets and in the countryside, and begin to biodegrade at landfill sites and in soil.

Once activated, degradation begins and the plastic becomes brittle (experiencing a loss in tensile strength and elasticity), breaks up into small pieces and then biodegrades into carbon dioxide, water and biomass.

Our technology does not alter the performance or properties of plastic.
During its useful life, a BioSafe
bag is indistinguishable in look, weight and performance from regular plastic bags.

BioSafe garbage bags contain no controversial chemicals, or any components requiring special regulatory approval.  It is also food contact approved (FDA – USA and SCF– EU).

BioSafe products with Trioxo-d have controlled lifetime  technology that acts like a molecular clock and, and makes the plastic reliably degrade completely in 12-24 months.

Environmental Advantages

Why choose BioSafe garbage bags?

  • Litter Control

  • Reduces plastic pollution

  • Limits government intervention

  • Non-toxic residues

  • Reduced corporate branded litter

  • Environmentally friendly

  • Carbon retention in soil

The Financial Cost of
Plastic Bag Waste

  • The recycling of non biodegradable plastic bags is of little interest to recycling facilities; the market price for recycled bags is $ 55 per tonne, and 150,000 bags are required for one tonne.

  • The energy and funds expended collecting and processing far exceed the $55 selling price after recycling.

  • It is less costly to send them to landfill, but even then, many are picked up again by the wind from landfill sites and scattered into the  wilderness.

The best solution remains waste minimization by avoiding   their use in the first place.

The Environmental Cost of
Plastic Bag Waste

  • In Canada-10 billion of these bags are handed out to consumers each year. In the United-States- 380 billion; And in Australia - 6 billion .

  • Globally, the number is almost 1 trillion (1,000,000,000,000).

  • These plastic bags can take up to 400 years before biodegrading. Many of them are carried off by the wind and end up floating in the ocean for years.

  • Hundreds of thousands of fish, turtles,
birds and sea mammals ingest them and die
    unnecessarily each year.

  • The quantity of plastics bags used in Ireland has been reduced by 90% after a "plastax" was passed in 2002.

  • On October 11, 2005, France voted to ban non biodegradable plastic bags by 2010.

Technology

Naturally Beautiful EnvironmentOur plastic products incorporate our exclusive patented  Trioxo-d technology. BioSafe bags are designed with a controlled lifetime and when discarded will degrade using our  Trioxo-d technology, leaving no toxic or harmful residue. BioSafe bags are highly versatile as they have the ability to degrade, biodegrade or can be recycled before the onset of degradation.

At the present time, degradable and biodegradable products on the market are predominantly produced from specialty starch-based (PLA) biodegradable polymers used to manufacture compost bags. These degradable and biodegradable polymers have remained relatively unchanged to date, are very expensive to manufacture, and technically complex (very difficult to process). In addition, the majority of the end products lack clarity, wet (hydrophillic) and tensile strength. Also, these bags are not recyclable. Due to their high price, mediocre processability and variable product quality, the use of degradable and biodegradable polymers has been very limited in the USA, Asia and Europe.

Key differences include:

  1. Our BioSafe garbage bag product will degrade in landfills, photo-degrade (through exposure to sunlight) in city streets and in the countryside, and begin to biodegrade at compost sites and in soil. Once activate degradation begins the plastic becomes brittle (experiencing a loss in tensile strength and elasticity), breaks up into small pieces and then during the natural digestion process, it turns itself into a food source for microbes and fungi.  The plastic pieces are converted into energy, carbon dioxide, water and biomass. The Polyethylene products in the presence of moisture, microorganisms, oxygen and soil, are biodegradable. (Per ASTM D6954-04).

  2. Trioxo-d garbage bag technology is incorporated into standard plastic resins (detailed below). This allows polymers to be converted into environmentally acceptable polymers, extending further their range of applications.

  3. End products are more economical than competing biodegradable products. Degradable products incorporating our Trioxo-d technology are substantially less expensive than competing (starch-based) degradable and biodegradable plastics products.

  4. A critical advantage is that Trioxo-d does not alter the physical performance characteristics of plastic.

  5. During its useful life, a BioSafe bag manufactured with Trioxo-d is indistinguishable in look, weight and performance from regular plastic bags.

  6. BioSafe garbage bags manufactured with Trioxo-d contain no controversial chemicals, or any components requiring special regulatory approval.  It is also food contact approved (FDA – USA and SCF – EU).

  7. BioSafe products with controlled lifetime act like a molecular clock and, the plastic will reliably degrade completely in months or years, based on the specified life cycle of the plastic product.
