A Day at Dunroven ~ Simple Pleasures
|
| A Day at Dunroven is like going back in time. When you wake up, you realize that you slept VERY WELL, not only because of the comfortable bed, but because of the absolute quiet. There are no sounds of cars, trucks, loud music, or heaven forbid, sirens! |
| What you may hear are natural sounds: Canadian geese flying overhead, the call of a pheasant or the rattle of a raven’s conversation. |
After a delicious breakfast you have several options, all of them pleasant, on how to spend your time here.
You may choose to tour the farm beginning with meeting our resident oxen, Bull and Dozer. You can learn oxen basics if you so choose and actually work them. Next, you will see our “N House” where we have several hens for eggs. Next to the “N House” is our vegetable garden where you can taste delicious plump blueberries in late summer and see the other vegetables we raise. Somewhere on our 10 acres you may encounter “Carrot” our resident deer, or the pheasant will appear, wanting treats. At the “Carriage House Gift Shop” you will find our freight wagon and the various hand forged items we have for sale. There are also hand dipped beeswax candles and Pennsylvania-Dutch good luck signs for sale.

| You may wish to set aside some time to participate in our old time hand crank coal fired forge where the ring of the anvil as the hammer strikes the hot metal can be heard. Every guest is given the chance to learn the basic steps of blacksmithing and to make a gift to take home along with their diploma. |
| Another option is to wander down the meadow and walk along our beach where you may see some fishing or pleasure boats or even cruise ships passing by. Perhaps you will see whales, dolphins and porpoises, sea lions and seals pass by. Many guests enjoy just relaxing on the beach and soaking up the quiet surroundings. You can walk all around Donegal Head and see the mainland coastal mountains if the tide permits. |
For a longer walk, wander down to the beach or take the lane to the Mitchell Bay dock. There are simple pleasures to experience:
• Picnics on the beach
• Watch breathtaking sunrises and sunsets which provide sought after lighting for photographers.
• Use the solitude for inspiration in painting or writing
|
| On a clear winter’s night, we have seen spectacular displays of Northern Lights, a memory you will always treasure. |
