President Michelle Pan's Installation Speech
Thank you Lions and Leos for your attendance to Templeton NC Lions’ Installation.
Our theme Blast from the Past suggests a couple things:
- new endeavours feeding off the energy of past accomplishments
- we can rhyme – BLAST from the PAST
Let us begin our reflection –
From our common goal – to serve, we have hiked the mountain for a better tomorrow. We have established ourselves from areas of raffle selling to local community service to fun and fellowship. At the Vancouver Chinatown and Arbutus Lions Club’s Medal of Merit dinner, we raised over $6800 in raffles. I’m sure you’ve caught us saying: 1 ticket for 5, 2 for 10, and an arm’s length for $20 and later thanking us for your winning ticket.
With our first time organizing the Lions Journey for Sight, we raised close to $4000 for services at the CNIB. Our other projects include the Amazing Race, Bowling extravaganza, and the Hallowe’en Can drive. Moreover, our PP Laura Huang was interviewed and featured in the JUNE issue of the LIONS magazine.
As the runner-up of MD 19 scrapbook contest and winner of the Best Small Club fundraising project in the west coast, we’ve become more involved in the Lions community. Our Lion Stephanie represented our club in the New Century Lions Panel at the Lions International Convention in Boston. As we continue to climb our mountain, we are ever grateful for the support and encouragement given to us from the LIONS community and thank you graciously.
This year, our club aims to increase membership, parallel to the MD 19’s goal, and focus on consistent community service to seniors, children, and adults. Mahatma Gandhi once offered his wisdom with, “be the change you want to see in the world”. Bearing Gandhi’s words in mind throughout the year, we will strive for the better.
Now I’ll show that we can rhyme with:
Lions unite
We shall walk for sight
Do what we can
With our energy at hand
Thank you all
For your support that’s anything but small
We will leave our mark
Let us EMBARK.
