Portraits in Oils

In some circumstances a portrait done in oils is preferable to pastels. If you are not intending on framing your portrait right away, or if it is going to be shipped a distance then an oil portrait  is far less delicate and more hardy than a pastel.  I do however, still prefer pastels over oils in pet portraits, as I find the texture of fur is most life-like in pastels particularly on velour paper, and feel the extra care is worth it.
