About

Ping-Kwong Wong
 

Ping was born in China, 1944. He graduated from Sir Robert Black College of Education in 1971 and Grantham College of Education in 1972. He received Higher Certification in Studio Ceramics from Hong Kong Polytechnic in 1983 and B.Ed. Degree from the University of Wolverhampton, UK in 1992. He taught art and pottery at St. Stephen's College in Hong Kong from 1972 to 1994 and was an instructor of studio ceramic art at Hong Kong Polytechnic from 1987 to 1993. He is a member of the Hong Kong Visual Arts Society, the Contemporary Ceramics Society (HK), Potters' Guild of British Columbia, and Richmond Potter's Club. He was also a member of the Richmond Public Art Program Steering Committee from 1996 to 97.

His works were exhibited in the Contemporary Hong Kong Art Biennial Exhibition (juried) from 1972 to 1992 and he has participated in many group exhibitions in Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Japan, United States and Canada. He was granted an exhibition at the Richmond Art Gallery in 1996, and a solo show featuring 'Birds - ceramics sculptures' at Seymour Art Gallery, North Vancouver in 2003.

He was the recipient of the Hong Kong Urban Council Fine Arts Award for ceramics in 1987. His works were collected by the Hong Kong Museum of Art, Canadian Craft Museum (Vancouver), and Richmond Art Gallery (BC), Canada.

The themes in his work reflect his interest in ancient Chinese ceramics and contemporary Western art; exploring the Nature and human relationship.

Presently, he is a studio potter and ceramics instructor.
