First off hello, and thank you for visiting my site! I hope you've enjoying what you've seen so far, and may consider visiting again for the additions. My name is Caileigh Goodrich, and I am the designer and artist of the animals shown on this website. Making these critters has been a hobby and obsession for several years now. 'Obsession' only because the creative process can be a struggle at times so that one may wonder what the appeal truly is, but after the final touches have been applied and you would almost say a soul looks back at you from within sparkling glass eyes, it's once again apparent what all the frustration is for. I love to discover their personality and little quirks as they are posed and photographed. The next best thing is finding their homes with wonderful people. Knowing that someone else sees something special enough with my critters to want to bring them home ~ it really makes it worthwhile.

As for the nitty gritty: I try my hardest to make high quality animals with every possible attention to detail. It sometimes seems a curse as any given animal can take days, weeks or even months to finish, but I believe these standards pay off in the end. You can be certain that all my animals are one of a kind, or close to it, and have thus been given my full attention and love. I would not offer any critter who does not tug at my heart, and would wish to treasure myself. All Poco Critters are guaranteed to please.

A bit of History ~ I've loved animals with all my heart for my whole life, and so they've always been a part of my thoughts. Among favorites, the fox has always ranked near the top, and I guess there's something about making a fox that really fulfills my creative bug, because as yet I'm not bored! Other favorites include crows, horses, wolves, dolphins, and all fantasy animals (especially unicorns). Yes, I was, and still am, a horsey girl. It's very surprising that there are few equines in the galleries, but then it's difficult to make a tiny horse in proportion..and a large horse uses up an inordinate amount of fabric which can get too costly).

It all began with pompom animals, when I was very young, and evolved to true animals which were hot glued together at around age 11 (because I didn't dare use a sewing machine). As a teenager I began making beanbag teddy bears for craft sales, called Pooky bears, which reasonably evolved into real jointed teddies. I didn't sell any of those, and it would have ended there but for eBay. I tentatively placed a cutie rust bear for auction with no real expectations, and was delighted to see several people liked him, bid on him, and found him a new home. I also received complimentary emails which totally blew me away, and gave the incentive to try more..and more..and more.

Inspiration ~ Besides my ever supportive dear family, allow me to now share with you those who have provided the best inspiration of all. They are as real and true as a good friend, and are probably the most to credit for all this. Those who will forever have comfy places in my heart:

Scruffy was our eldest kitty who passed away of old age in 1999, at 19. She was a wild cat, and took no guff! I was afraid to pick her up for the longest time. She was a great teacher of respect and individuality.

Striker lived a long and truly healthy, happy life for 20 years, but passed away late in the year 2003. He was the sweetest gentlest boy, and was a great friend to everyone.

Snowy was the next addition to our family in '89, our first dog, and a most beautiful and sweet girl. She had a sense of humor, and in our youth would delight in sneaking up behind me, barking once, then racing off down the hall. It got me every time. I'd shriek, whirl about to see her tail disappearing around a corner, then I'd laugh too. Snowy loved babies, puppies and kittens. She would have been a good mom. We lost her to heart disease at 13 years. I still miss her daily, but feel she is in a good place to watch over her family even now.

Teddy was our second dog, a very sensitive and loving soul, and my dear friend. We will never forget her. She took the best care of her squeaky frog, she'd wander the house with it held gently in her mouth giving it tentative squeezes, trying to find a safe hiding place to 'bury' froggy. If she heard someone squeaking her toy she'd come running, seize froggy, and find it another place. She died too soon due to vet failure but she made the biggest impact on my heart.

Nibby was wise, sensitive and empathic. I called her our psychic dog for she always brought out the most interest from the cows and horse we'd pass on our walks. She was our police lady, trafficking everybody on walks, refusing to move unless everyone was accounted for. In her healthier years she enjoyed grabbing other leashes & dragging the victim along at a faster pace if required! She survived for so long with many physical ailments and had a quality of life thanks to the hard work and love of my mother, but unfortunately all the love in the world only has so much power and she passed away recently this year. I miss you sweetheart, be well.

Everybody loves Umi, she's endearing with such a silly shape. Short front legs, and a long body and nose..sort of like a balloon animal. She loves to bark at passers-bye & the mailman, play with Birdman, Snakeman, & most especially Ball (this is a bit of an obsession). Umi is a caring nurse dog... she will be the first to let you know of any ailments with sensitive and earnest , location-specific nose sniffing.

Icarus was really special. He was a wonderful sweet cat with so much love to give to everyone. Beautiful, charismatic, and adventurous..he wandered further than was good and was struck by a car at just 1 year of age summer of 2002. That year was more than enough time to wholly claim our hearts, and break them when he passed. I miss feeling his paw on my leg, asking for his late night cuddle, when he came in from daily excursions and just wanted a loving hug, waking beside a warm lump in the layers of blanket, and everything in between. We're most blessed to have known this special kitty, no matter how short a time together we were granted.

Lindy is our newest canine addition. She's a black/white with a hint of tri, papillon. Life is certainly more interesting. Quite honestly she can be a bit of a challenging beast, but with love and gentleness, over the years she has become quite a lot more amiable and has definitely endeared herself in my heart as much as everyone else, I couldn't imagine things without her! She's also too smart for her own britches and will purposely distract Umi in order to steal treats from her (which has Umi understandably paranoid), but that's part of her charm I guess ;)

We also adopted two kittens at practically the same time. Twin beautiful brother and sister siblings, who are the most lovely soft, snuggly kitties I've ever seen. Fairly fearless, adoring, gentle...they are dear kitties, although their third names are 'Brat' and 'Mischief' for all truthfulness. Auguste is the boy, and Maia is our little pixi girl, so therefore it shall be announced as their full names: "Auguste Octocat Brat", and "Maia Berpuss Mischief". Affectionately and without all seriousness (just some of it). Now they are outdoors cats and revel in it, so I only see them part of the time, but they always come home for supper (in the middle of the night, of course), Auguste always has a desire for snuggles when I'm at the computer, and Maia will always eventually find me for some patented kitty cuddles. She's light and small, so her third, and possibly most apt nickname is foam-kitty.

The latest addition is Oliver, a black stray who dropped by starved and cold one night, and stubbornly decided this is where his official Home would be. (although I suspect he has many a 'home' throughout the neighborhoor, and that he gets fed at ALL of them). Oliver is a completely charming, sociable, affectionate, horrifically rotund, beastly little cat. His favorite pasttimes include sleeping, eating (he will never be hungry again!), sleeping, carousing, hounding Maia, and leaving tons of black fur all over the couch. Like the other two, he also delights in wandering in past all decent hours for mealtime.

To everyone who has watched my progress over the years, shared your stories, photos, gifts...thank you for being there.
