Kinlochaline Castle / Clan MacInnis Information:

- Kinlochaline Castle was known as Caisteal an Ime (Butter Castle) because the MacInnes chieftainess was said to have paid the masons in butter.

- The MacInnes laird and his 5 sons were murdered in Ardtornish Castle in 1390 and Kinlochaline Castle was there after controlled by the MacLeans of Duart.

- Kinlochaline Castle was a Clan Donald stronghold.

- The MacInnes laird and his sons were granted the favour of John, Lord of the Isles, but were killed by his son Donald, Lord of the Isles and the lands were consequently given to the MacLeans of Duart.

- As the MacInnes family were vassals of the MacDonalds, the Lord of the Isles would, presumably, have been able to deal with the lands as he wished.
