Joshua Tree Climbing

Unfortunately, my first climbing trip was practically before the advent of the camera, so I have meager offerings. Here is yours truly on Papa Woosley. That huge knob made it look pretty easy from our picnic table, but I nearly donated some skin once I got on it. Although Squamish is also granite, Joshua Tree has a brand of granite that is all its own. This is probably not news to geologists. What was new to me was that Joshua Tree grades are serious business.

Ah, the infamous Pinched Rib. Ever since that Gallery photo in Climbing magazine, I'm sure every Tom, Dick, and Harry have had a crack at this overrated sandbag. All the same, it had to be done. On top of being a bit hard for the alleged grade, it seems to have lost a rather important hold recently. This probably won't help the grading situation any.
