HENGEVELD

"The Devil has been hard at work" H.Hengeveld

This is my blood. The parents who raised me, and the brothers with whom I fought and played. We are all descendants of Dutch immigrants, starting with my grandparents move to Canada in the 1940's.

Henry Hengeveld a.k.a Dad

Dad works for Environment Canada as a Senior Science Advisor on Climate Change (read: important guy). None of us really knew anything about his work. When I heard from friends that they saw him on television, I started asking questions.

His real job, however, is in the workshop, stripping furniture that my mom finds in other people's garbage.

Jane Hengeveld nee Tange, a.k.a. Mom

Mom is an unusual person. She will bend over backwards to help people, but she will not hesitate to kick your ass, either. I remember being forced to wear shorts to school in clear contravention of the dress code, just so she could fight the principal. He deserved it and, of course, she won.

She has spent all of her days (and nights) holding the fort against four rather demanding (but good hearted) boys. She is a frequent volunteer for just about anything that helps people, and has a phenomenal talent for cake making.

 Chris

This is the oldest; my role model. He is a husband, father, and business man (when he concentrates). An incessant inventor, he has come to be a career landscaper in Carrying Place, Ontario.

 Rob

This is my younger brother and victim of childhood enmity. He's a husband too, and an insane artist. His stuff is better than all of the usual dribble that comes from art colleges.

As it is with any artist except Robert Batemann, he is working at a store that stocks plumbing parts to earn a buck. His studio space in Toronto, Ontario, could be the spawning ground of artwork that will make him posthumously famous!

 Dave

Dave is the youngest and, as such, has license to have no obvious direction in life. His bent for the unusual is an eternal source of both joy and pain.

A recent vagabondesque trip to Mexico has made his world a bigger place:

"The world is really fucked."
