As part of my research I have travelled in Europe to see actual medieval tapestries. Even from books or slides, I had been struck by the absence of women in their narratives. In the Apocalypse of Angers series, depicting the gospel according to St.John, there are, however, two women represented but only among the other deadly sins. Here I placed the Whore of Babylon (from Angers) in dialogue with the image of a stenographer on the cover of a Shorthand training manual. The installation recalls the office environment from my "tikster" days. This is my final work in the series dealing with issues of women as currency. |
