When I was about to make another major move in my life, I took many years of back issues of the South African newspaper, The Weekly Mail to the Banff Centre for the Arts. I built a reading booth (called IMPORT) in the main passageway, and put out a different copy of the paper twice each day. A video camera behind a one way mirror focused on the hands of people who read the copies. After each paper had been read I bound it in the shape of a life saver, or steering wheel, and they were exhibited in clear plastic bags at the Banff Centre gallery and the Roundhouse in Vancouver. |
