Herbert Shelton N.D. who co-founded the term and movement "Natural
Hygiene", supervised and assisted in over 40 thousand water fasts
during his career. He advocated a basically raw food diet consisting
of fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and sprouts eaten only in compatible
combinations for ease and completion of digestion. He determined that
this diet best fit the human design. Judging by the results that his
patients and students experienced, the approach that he used with people
to reverse disease and aging was a superior one. He referred to acute
disease as "a curative process" that the body conducts to
help rid itself of internal de-habilitating toxins and debris. He focused
on helping people detoxify through fasting, juicing, and rebuild with
a clean and proper diet. This allows the body to reach ideal health
and alleviates concerns. Other factors such as exercise, fresh air,
natural light, sufficient rest and psychological pluses were also included
as beneficial. For more information see the Natural Hygiene information

Constantine Hering M.D., the most prominent catalyst of early American
Homeopathy, was also one of the first to notice how healing progresses.
Homeopaths refer to his observations as "Hering's Law of Cure".
Hering's Law says that we heal from the inside out, from the
head down, and in reverse order from how the illness progressed.
Therefore, on the road to improvement we go back through what we came
through, to some extent.
