"An old Norwegian Recipe for getting rid of Cough and Flu"
thank you Dianna for this great recipe |
In Juicer blend:
1 med.size onion
4 fresh garlic sections
(use juice only)
Add to juice:
2 tbsp. melted honey
¼ tsp. nutmeg
|
Take onion and garlic bits that are left in juicer, sauté them & when they are partially cooked put in ice cube tray and freeze, then use for soups, omelets, stews or what ever. Remember the onions become stronger when liquid is removed.
Store in glass covered jar, (not plastic) in fridge. Shake before using. Take 2 Tbsp. in morning and before bed. Must be shared with mate or spouse, due to the smell of garlic or you could be spending some time alone ("works great" says Dianna).

Foods That Will Help You Relax
-
Include protein in your meals. Eg: legumes, nuts, fish, meat and cheese. Why? they have sources of tryptophan which is a relaxing brain chemical. If you have mood swings - just add some protein to each meal.
-
Oats are the classic relaxation food and have been used by herbalists for centuries as a calming remedy. As a whole grain they also help to balance blood sugar. In addition, like other carbohydrates, they help the brain to process typtophan. We love porridge in the morning - it fills up the tummy!
-
Milk which is rich in calcium, has calming properties but I have found that it produces problems for me - like extra mucous in the morning - so I don't use it. If you are dairy intolerant (like me) then have calcium enriched soya milk or rice milk - that is a good alternative - but doesn't quite taste the same does it?
-
Basil is a highly calming food and can help to induce sleepiness. Keep a plant pot of basil handy to snip leaves off and put into your salads. Another great way to gain the benefits of Basil is to use Pesto Sauce (the one made out of basil, that is!) - this will give you a strong sleep inducing boost. How about adding basil to your tomato soups!
