Whenever I purchase a box
of S.O.S pads, I immediately
take a pair of scissors and cut each pad
into halves. After years of having to throw
away rusted and unused and smelly pads, I finally
decided that this would be much more economical. And
now a box of S.O.S pads last me indefinitely! In fact,
I have noticed that the scissors
get sharpened this way, too!

Opening
brand new jars can be
a feat in itself. Well, I have found a way to make
it the easiest thing to do. Instead of banging a jar
of jam, pickles, etc., with a knife until it loosens
up, I simply reach into the drawer and pull out the
handy nut
cracker. It adjusts to the size of the
jar and I simply give it a good twist and off pops
the lid!
To open hard to open lids, I have a piece of the webbed nonslip shelf liner in my kitchen drawer, it works great by letting you get a good grip on the lid, another thing that works is putting a thick rubber band snugly around the lid, then turning. (Thanks Annette, Oct08)
-
Use vertical strokes when

Easy
Tick Removal:
Apply a glob of liquid soap to a cotton ball. Cover
the tick with the soap-soaked cotton ball and swab
it for a few seconds 15-20), the tick will come out
on it's own and be stuck to the cotton ball when you
lift it away. This technique has worked every time
I've used it (and that was frequently), and it's much
less traumatic for the patient and easier for me.
This is great, because it works in those places where
it's some times difficult to get to with tweezers:
between toes, in the middle of a head full of dark
hair, etc.
-
How do you know when an egg has been boiled or is raw? Take it out of the frig and spin it on the counter top. If it spins it's boiled if it wabbles then it is raw. This works well when your trying to decide if your boiled eggs are done too (thanks Linda). bottom

-
Clean
a thermos. Fill the bottle with water, drop
in 4 tablets, soak for an hour (or
longer, if necessary).

Unclog
a drain. Clear the sink drain by dropping three
Alka Seltzer tablets down the drain followed by a
cup of white vinegar. Wait a few minutes, then run
the hot water.

get to frost more cake/cupcakes with the same amount. You also eat
less sugar/calories per serving.
-
Reheating refrigerated bread: To warm biscuits, pancakes, or muffins that were refrigerated,
place them in a microwave with a cup of water. The increased
moisture will keep the food moist and help it reheat faster.
Another way to reheat refrigerated biscuits, rolls, etc., is to wrap them in a damp paper towel before putting them in the microwave, the dough absorbs some of the moisture from the towel. (Thanks Annette, Oct08)
-
Newspaper weeds away: Start putting in your plants, work the nutrients in your soil. Wet

glass- the fibers catch ones you can't see! top
-
No More Mosquitoes: Place a dryer sheet in your pocket. It will keep the mosquitoes away.

empty paper towel roll or empty gift wrap roll to your vacuum. It
can be bent or flattened to get in narrow openings.
-

cling when wearing panty hose. Place pin in seam of slacks and -
voila - static is gone.
-

Foggy Windshield?: Hate foggy windshields? Buy a chalkboard eraser and keep it in the
glove box of your car. When the windows fog, rub with the eraser!
Works better than a cloth!
-
Hair Conditioner: Use your hair conditioner to shave your legs. It's a lot cheaper
than shaving cream and leaves your legs really smooth. It's also a
great way to use up the conditioner you bought but didn't like when
you tried it in your hair. bottom
-
Goodbye Fruit Flies: To get rid of pesky fruit flies, take a small glass fill it ½" with Apple Cider Vinegar and 2 drops of dish washing liquid, mix
well. You will find those flies drawn to the cup and gone forever!
-

it "home," & can't digest it so it kills them. It may take a week or so especially if it rains, but it works & you don't have the worry about pets or small children being harmed!
-
Take baby powder to the beach: Keep a small bottle of baby powder in your beach bag. When your ready to leave the beach sprinkle yourself and kids with the powder
and the sand will slide right off your skin.
Common Household Seasonings do Double Duty as Health Boosters #84-89 (thanks Bare)
Some cooking spices can benefit more than your taste buds: researchers have found that certain seasonings help fight common aches and seasons and prevent disease. Here's how to spice up your health.
Ginger Zaps - Twice-a-day doses of ginger extract relieved osteoarthritis pain in two thirds of patients in a University of Miami study. Like many pain pills, ginger blocks the enzyme that triggers joint inflammation, explains Jacob Teitelbaum, M.D., author of Pain Free 1-2-3 (McGraw-Hill, 2006). His advice: chew a slice of candied ginger or brew tea by chopping a half-inch piece of the root per cup. This spice may even stymie ovarian cancer. In a University of Michigan study, tumor cells mixed with ginger in lab dishes died.
-
A Cinnamon Lifts - A whiff of cinnamon can enhance motivation and alertness, researchers at Wheeling Jesuit University in West Virginia have found. Its aroma boosts blood flow; which may stimulate the brain. And once you eat it, cinnamon improves sugar metabolism and helps keep blood fats in check, according to research by the US Department of Agriculture. ½ teaspoon daily can reduce your risk of developing diabetes, says Richard Anderson, Ph.D., of the USDA.
-
Turmeric Soothes - The spice that turns curry and table mustard yellow can fight heartburn and indigestion. Turmeric's active ingredient, curcumin, eased dyspepsia in 87% of patients in a Thai study. It can also ease headaches, sore muscles, and joints. And turmeric may fight Alzheimer's disease: mice that ate the pungent spice had only half as many amyloid plaques (brain tangles) as those that didn't, in a study at the University of California, Los Angeles. top
-
A Red Pepper - Clears Drugstore decongestants cut blood flow to dry up clogged noses - but capsaicin, the compound that lends peppers their fire, can end congestion even faster. It makes your nose run, so you can breathe easier. Next time you're stuffy, munch on crackers topped with red pepper sauce and grab the tissues. Capsaicin may also battle prostate cancer, notes a report in Cancer Research. Mice injected with cancer cells and fed pepper extract got much smaller tumors than other injected mice. - Melissa Gotthardt
-
Cherry Balm - Drinking cherry juice can ease post exercise muscle pain. When 14 subjects were given 12 oz. of a cherry juice drink, twice daily, they had less pain around the elbow exercises.
-
Those who get 6-7 hours of sleep a night could slash the risk of getting diabetes. Sleeping 5-6 hours could double your risk. Sleeping over 8 hours increase the risk 3 times.
-
When cleaning a cast iron skillet that has dried food
on it, sprinkle table salt or coarse salt into the
pan. Use a paper towel and rub. The dried-on food is
removed quickly and easily. Then rinse & dry on the
stove. Lightly spray with olive oil & using a paper
towel rub into the surface. (thank you Freddie for this hint)

PEROXIDE (thank you Barry) ~ This was written by Becky Ransey of Indiana. I would like to tell you of the benefits of that plain little old bottle of 3% peroxide you can get at any drug store.
1. Take one capful (the little white cap that comes with the bottle) and hold in your mouth for 10 minutes daily, then spit it out. (I do it when I bathe). No more canker sores and your teeth will be whiter without expensive pastes. Use it instead of mouthwash. (Small print says mouth wash and gargle right on the bottle).
2. Let your toothbrushes soak in a cup of "Peroxide" to keep them free of germs.
3. Clean your counters, table tops with peroxide to kill germs and leave a fresh smell. Simply put a little on your dishrag when you wipe, or spray it on the counters. It will also remove bloodstains.
4. After rinsing off your wooden cutting board, pour peroxide on it to kill salmonella and other bacteria.
5. I had fungus on my feet for years - until I sprayed a 50/50 mixture of peroxide and water on them (especially the toes) every night and let dry.
6. Soak any infections or cuts in 3% peroxide for five to ten minutes several times a day. My husband has seen gangrene that would not heal with any medicine, but was healed by soaking in peroxide.
7. Fill a spray bottle with a 50/50 mixture of peroxide and water and keep it in every bathroom to disinfect without harming your septic system like bleach or most other disinfectants will.
8. Tilt your head back and spray into nostrils with your 50/50 mixture whenever you have a cold, or plugged sinuses. It will bubble and help to kill the bacteria. Hold for a few minutes then blow your nose into a tissue.
9. If you have a terrible toothache and cannot get to a dentist right away, put a capful of 3% peroxide into your mouth and hold it for ten minutes several times a day. The pain will lessen greatly.
10. And of course, if you like a natural look to your hair, spray the 50/50 solution on your wet hair after a shower and comb it through. You will not have the peroxide burnt blonde hair like the hair dye packages, but more natural highlights if your hair is a light brown, faddish, or dirty blonde. It also lightens gradually so it's not a drastic change. (NOTE from Grandma Faith: peroxide will dry out your hair abit).
11. Put half a bottle of peroxide in your bath to help rid boils, fungus, or other skin infections.

This information just in: Apparently this is how Sheryl Crow got breast cancer, she was on the Ellen show and she said this same exact thing.
So please be very careful ladies.
I've been informed by Annette that Snopes states this info is not true, but I will leave it here, just in case (Oct08).... GF.
Drinking Bottled Water Kept in Car.... a friend whose mother recently got diagnosed with breast cancer. The doctor told her: women should not drink bottled water that has been left in a car. The doctor said that the heat and the plastic of the bottle have certain chemicals that can lead to breast cancer. So please be careful and do not drink that water bottle that has been left in a car. This information is the kind we need to know and be aware and just might save us!!!! The heat causes toxins from the plastic to leak into the water and they have found these toxins in breast tissue. Use a stainless steel Canteen or a glass bottle when you can!!!

Thought I would share a remedy for burns that eliminates the need for salve, no blisters, no scars, and best of all no soreness or pain. I have used this several times and it really works. Cut raw potato in half, scrape inside with knife or spoon and put scraped potato on burned area, wrap with towel or washcloth for one hour. Remove towel and potato rinse area and dry gently. No blister, no scar and no soreness. The area may be red for several hours but it goes away and leaves no indication of a burn ever occurring. This worked for me on hot grease burns, burns from reaching over a toaster while in use, burns from hot steam, and burns from touching hot pans. I don't have a single scar from either of these burns. (thanks Faye for this remedy)

Another Facial Mask is - 1 cup Oatmeal (regular Quaker) crushed in a blender to a powder – add water and a squeeze of lemon juice & a dollop of honey – This mask can be messy – just lay down and relax. My facialist told me about this and it nourishes the skin awesome. (thanks Debi for these 2 facial mask hints)
