Starting in 1983 and for a time, holding the record for the longest running act on 4AD, The Wolfgang Press are the offspring of the post punk antics of Rema-Rema and Mass. Their first lp is the closest relation to the others and over the years with each passing lp they became more soul and dance-oriented. A different mood with each lp, they were good at keeping their audience guessing and avoiding a long lasting "label" to their sound. Beyond "alternative music" how can you describe them? We each have our own opinions.
