Dan Parke received a BA from The University of BC in 1986, majoring in architectural history/theory. He received scholarships from the provincial government, and from the Architectural Institute of BC and in 1990, he graduated from UBC with a professional degree in architecture.
From 1986 to 2000, Dan worked for a number of architectural firms in Vancouver and gained experience with projects ranging from residential renovations and custom houses, to upgrades to heritage buildings, medical centers, schools, sports centers, night clubs, hotels, office and residential towers, and tenant improvements. Projects were located in Vancouver, Burnaby, the North Shore, Richmond, Bowen Island, Whistler/Pemberton, Vancouver Island, and in numerous BC interior towns. Clients ranged from individuals and businesses to developers and institutions.
In 2001, Dan registered as a practicing architect with The Architectural Institute of BC, and established his own firm -Salal Architecture. He also serves as a mentor architect in the internship program. Recent projects with Salal include research and design for sustainable communities, feasibility studies, custom houses, and healthcare facilities. Dan also collaborates with other architects on larger projects.
In 2003, Dan became LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) accredited, and he continues to address ‘green’ issues in all his projects. Dan is also a member of the Canadian Green Building Council.
Dan was born in Winnipeg, but has lived in Vancouver for over 35 years. He moved with his family to Bowen Island six years ago. Dan also works on Bowen Island and in his free time, can be found biking/hiking/skiing in the surrounding mountains.
