What Is Love?

My answer:

Love is the act of freely giving respect and or things without the expectation of recompense.  It can be given by a person or animal, to a person or animal. Love is realized through action, not feeling. Erotic feeling is called love, but the resemblance is only superficial. Failures in love are acts of weakness: the opposite of love is not cruelty but apathy. (Cruelty resembles love in that the other person is recognized as existing). Love can be tough on everyone. Tough love can be distinquished from cruelty by long run outcomes. Professed intentions should be ignored, they are too easy to fake.
