Christ is depicted with his right hand raised in blessing. In traditional icons, in his left hand, the Gospel Book is open to "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another even as I have loved you." (John 13:34) His nimbus bears within it a Cross. His cloak is blue, to symbolize His humanity which he put on in His Incarnation, and His tunic is red, to represent His divinity that He always was in eternity.
