St. Peter (Simon bar Johah)
St. Peter, the Leader of the Apostles, with the help of the Holy Spirit, united on hundred twenty confused, dispirited followers of Jesus and, within days, built a Church numbering more than five thousand. Accourding to archaeologists who studied the bones that Pope Paul VI declared in 1968to be those of his earliest predecessor, Peter was not big.. He was a stocky muscular man, but short only five feet four inches tall. Most early representations show a fair complexion, curly hair, and a short, curly beard. At death he was between 67 and 72 years of age. Assuming death as A.D. 67, he would be about the same age as Jesus. Peter's given name was Simon and his father's name was John (or Jonah). |
