St. Sofia and her daughters Vera, Nadia and Lubov

St. Sofia and her daughers Vera, Nadia, and Lubov   (Faith, Hope, and Charity) (2nd Century). According to an Eastern allegory explaining the cult of Divine Wisdom, Vera (Faith), Nadia (Hope), and Lubov (Charity), were daughters of St. Sophia (known as Wisdom) in the Roman Martyrology on September 30), a widow in Rome. The daughters suffered martyrdom during Hadrian’s persecution of Christians.  Faith, twelve, was scourged, and when unharmed, then boiling pitch was poured on her, then she was beheaded.  Hope, ten, and Charity, nine were also beheaded after emerging, unscathed, from a furnace, and Wisdom died three days later while praying at their graves. August 1 is the Holy Day in their honor.
