Unions grieve for hundreds of fallen members

People from more than 65 countries were among the nearly 7,000 dead or missing in New York and Washington on Sept. 11. Unions were also counting their fallen comrades. Here is a partial list of unions that lost members in the attacks.

Fire Fighters: More than 300 New York City firefighters—all IAFF members—are missing.

Hotel Employees & Restaurant Employees: 70 HERE members were on duty at the Windows on the World restaurant on floors 106 and 107 Tower 1. 47 are missing.

Building trades workers: Many building trades workers on several construction projects in both World Trade Center towers are unaccounted for.

Electrical Workers (IBEW): 19 IBEW members are reported missing.

Flight Attendants: The four hijacked flights had 25 flight attendants onboard.

International Union of Police Associations: Sixty-three police officers remain missing.

Office and Professional Employees: There are 16 missing members of OPEIU who worked in the World Trade Center building.

SEIU: About 350 SEIU building maintenance workers at the World Trade Center were on duty at the time of the attack -- the whereabouts of 24 are unknown. The total number of missing SEIU members is 62.

Carpenters: Hundreds of Carpenters were working at the World Trade Center. 15 are unaccounted for.

Unemployment: Some estimates suggest that 75,000-100,000 people will be directly unemployed in lower Manhattan as a result of the attacks. Hundreds of thousands more workers in the airline, travel and hospitality jobs layoffs and job loss as their industries struggle to deal with the aftermath of the attacks.
