Cormack says thanks for the memories

Audrey Cormack delivered a heartfelt personal good-bye to delegates Thursday, May 4th in her final formal address as AFL president.

"I just want to say how proud and privileged I feel to have been the leader of the labour movement in Alberta," said Cormack, as she choked back tears. "I have a lot of good memories."

Cormack, who has served as president since 1995, will not be seeking re-election. After the convention she will be taking a well-deserved break and joining her husband Dan Comrie, a CEP rep who was transferred to Ontario last year.

Cormack said the Alberta labour movement still faces a number of serious challenges – both external and internal. But she says unions in this province have dealt with adversity before and can do it again.

"I am confident that we will overcome our internal divisions," said Cormack. "And I am confident that we will continue to do the work that needs to be done on behalf of working people."
