Clementine Skimmer

Navigate quickly around the Moon by simple point and click, then zoom in to detail on an 8 Meg image at 0.5 km/pixel (1/4 arcsecond from a backyard telescope point of view!).

The images are composited so that the illumination is at Full Moon. Includes a database of more than 7,000 features. Type in a name and an image will pop up with the cursor on top of the requested feature. Click on an image to identify a feature! Modify the database and add your own comments. Also provides a continuous readout of Lat/Lon as the cursor moves, as well as flipping/inverting and distance measurements. You can save the images in a number of popular formats. For PC (sorry no Mac version expected).You can enter libration values and generate a telescopic view. Great for polar areas!

This program accesses a NASA CD-ROM of images from the Clementine mission.

Clementine LDIM CD-ROM VOL 15 can be ordered from the NSSDC for $10 US plus shipping. The identical Clementine imagery is included with the shareware Lunar Calculator v2.

You can run the software without the CD-ROM, but it only shows a couple of areas.

Update includes navigation by Alt-arrow; cursor only jumps on an image click, not a sector jump. Also the root location 2 character limitation has been removed..
