Find - Search - Locate

When you want to jump directly to a feature, use the Find utility - hot key ctrl-F.

You can search for a feature by name (default), or by feature type (ALBEDO FEATURE, CATENA, CRATER, DOME, DORSA, DORSUM, FOSSA, LACUS, LANDING SITE, MARE, MISCELLANEOUS, MONS, MONT, MONTES, OCEANUS, PALUS, PLANITIA, PLANUM, PROMONTORIUM, RAY, RIMA, RIMAE, RUPES, SINUS, VALLIS). Note that at the moment, the vast majority of features in Lunar Calculator v2 are craters. As time goes on, I will be adding more. If you have a list of features and their lat/lons, I can add them to the database for others to use. For a linear feature, only the position of the middle point is given. I hope to change this in a future version.

You can add new feature types and new features to the database yourself. For details on how to do that, see the database section.

If you are searching for a feature, you probably want to see it. However, if it is in darkness and you have earthshine turned off or way down, then you may see a blank screen. So this allows you to boost the earthshine along the way. The value is saved in the configuration file if you save the configuration on exiting the program.

If you know the feature you are looking for is already in the window, and you do not want to recalculate the view, click on this box to have the cursor jump to the feature.

Magnification is a very personal preference! If you like working with a particular magnification, you don't want Lunar Calculator to reset it for you. If this is not checked, Lunar Calculator will choose an appropriate magnification for you: higher for small features; lower for big features.

Often you may find yourself in the opposite situation: instead of searching for a known object, you place the mouse over an unidentified feature. Right-click, and choose "Identify". A box will appear with features listed in order of increasing distance.

Note to DEMO users: although you may be able to search for and jump to a feature smaller than 3km, it will not be plotted, nor will it show up in the identify list.
