An improved simulation of the lunar face happens when you combine or blend the best of both worlds: USGS shaded relief map for areas near the terminator, and Clementine images for areas with a high solar illumination away from the terminator. Lunar Calculator gives you this possibility with the USGS-Clementine blend, available from the View menu:
The best representation is with the dynamic shadow USGS setting selected. This view takes a little longer to compute because of the extra data retrieval and blending algorithm.
