Potter's Cottage

Bed & Breakfast and Weekly Rental

  Still a Few Vacancies!

Welcome!

We've made some big changes for 2010! Our accommodation is now larger, more comfortable, and more attractive than before, and we've managed to make the changes while keeping the prices the same. We also now have Free Wi-Fi.

Our large home has been converted into two fully-independent, adjoining living spaces. Instead of staying in the somewhat basic, converted pottery studio, visitors will now be able to enjoy a four-person suite that includes a seventeen-foot high living room with kitchenette, two bedrooms (one upstairs and one downstairs), a huge bathroom with claw-foot tub, a fireplace and a private entrance. It feels like a complete house unto itself. The two exterior walls of the living room are almost entirely taken up with windows and glass doors that give excellent views out over our peaceful meadow with its swooping squadrons of dragonflies and quietly grazing families of deer.

Where is Hornby and what's it like?

On the map, Hornby Island is located on the west coast of Canada between Vancouver Island and the mainland of British Columbia. More specifically, we are in the Strait of Georgia between Denman Island and Texada Island. It's about five miles from one end to the other.

As for the atmosphere of Hornby, well....have you got a few hours? Probably not, but let's put it this way— PLENTY OF PERSONALITY!

There is a large, fairly eccentric, artist and craft community on the island whose influence is clearly evident in our architecture and in the many art galleries which seem to pop up everywhere. Merchandise and food are often sold in open air markets that give the place a laid back, almost exotic, atmosphere.

Summer weather on Hornby is usually excellent, particularly in July and August, but even on cloudy days, visitors enjoy being here. The beach at Tribune Bay is ranked by Beautiful British Columbia Magazine as the second most beautiful beach in British Columbia, second only to Long Beach. But for swimming, they rank it Number 1, because the water is so much warmer here. You can rent a kayak to get out and explore the marine life and unusual rock formations, or you can rent a bicycle and take a tour of the many mountain biking trails on our crown land. And if you want a little culture, the Hornby Festival runs for about ten days starting the end of July, and always brings an interesting selection of live musicians in the classical, jazz, and world music traditions.

So to sum it all up, Hornby is a really fun place.

Hope we'll be seeing you.

Stephen & Robyn.
