The Gedcom File Explained

GEDCOM is the acronym for "GEnealogical Data COMmunications." GEDCOM is a computer data format created by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for storing genealogical information so that many computer programs can use it.

Most, if not all genealogical computer programs use GEDCOM to share information with other genealogy programs.
