Chapter Fourteen "MAGIC CRYSTALS"
Time to gather up all the cameras, etc., said Beenan. When you are sure you have everything with you, please return to the floor in here, where we will take up the same circular pattern that brought us here. When they arrived, they had all their belongings and equipment in shoulder strap bags. That way, they would be sure that their belongings would transpose with them. They had to pack everything back into these bags for the return trip. Marie and Kelly were first to get ready. They placed their bags on the floor where they were going to sit. Kirby and Allen followed suit. Cliff's bag was a little smaller than when he had arrived, because of the snack food he had brought along and consumed. Sarah placed her bag on her spot and stood there waiting patiently. She looked around the sphere. They seemed to have everything, but the sphere was filthy, she thought. Sarah cleaned up a little anyway, even though Bo said it would all simply vanish after they left. After five minutes of checking and double checking for anything left behind, they all assembled on the floor in a circle as instructed. They hung their bags on their shoulders and sat next to an Ehesti, as they did on the way there.
While positioning themselves, a whirring noise, like a small fan came up. The noise centered itself between all of them. It stopped and a time glass like table materialized. On it, were packages wrapped like Christmas gifts. They were all small packages, no bigger than a pound of butter. Each one had a different name tag on it. These are farewell gifts from Balenn, to take with you, said Beenan. Please wait until we return to Earth, before opening them. They put their respective gifts with their belongings and the table disappeared and whirred off the way it came. Cliff shook his gift as he would a Christmas gift, trying to guess what was in it. There was no rattle. He wondered why Beenan didn't want them opened up right away, but he decided to be patient and wait until they returned. As he was returning his gift to his bag, Kirby was holding his gift up to the light, trying to see what might be inside. His was in a yellow wrapped package and you could see right through the wrapping when held to the light. There was nothing to see, but another unmarked container inside the paper. He realized he was detaining everyone, so he hastily returned his gift to his bag. They all put their arms on each others shoulders, as they did to transpose to Balenn. Beenan took one last look, as did everyone. Okay, concentrate on the living room of the Crowley Mansion, he said.
Instantly they were back. It was sundown, but still bright. Everything seemed to be the same as when they left. Kirby went to check out the kitchen. Allen headed for the phone, with Kelly right behind him. Hi, it's me, said Allen. I will be home shortly. Okay honey, she answered, I'll have a snack ready. Kelly phoned home also. How was your day, asked her husband? I will tell you when I get home, she replied, in about half an hour. Sarah and Marie didn't bother to call home. They were often called to work the night shift, so there was no panic. They would be home shortly anyway. Should we open our gifts now, asked Marie? I'm going to wait until I get home, replied Sarah. It won't melt in the meantime will it Beenan? Beenan laughed. No, it won't melt, but I won't guarantee that it will remain the same. I've got to get home, interrupted Allen. He was about to leave when he remembered what he wanted to ask the Ehesti. Beenan, Bo and Beem are you going to be staying here one more night? I think so, said Beenan. Come back tomorrow and we will explain the function of your gifts. You mean that our gifts are so complicated that they need explaining, asked Allen? Yes and no, replied Beem. Go ahead and get out of here, you family people, said Beenan. We can chatter about all this tomorrow. Allen and the girls grabbed all their belongings and said farewell to Cliff and Kirby. See you all tomorrow.
Allen, Sarah, Marie and Kelly all rushed home to their families. Cliff and Kirby remained in the kitchen, talking over some of the events. The Ehesti came in to join them. Kirby had the microwave going, with a small pizza in it, for Cliff and himself. I guess there is no point in offering you any pizza, asked Kirby? No, not much point, replied Beenan, but before we go back to Balenn, I am determined to make the necessary changes, so that I can gorge myself with your wonderful cooking. How will you do that, asked Cliff? We will leave that as a surprise for now, said Beenan. By the way, said Beem, in ten words or less how did you like your visit to Balenn?
That was quite a journey, said Cliff, and a humbling one, said Kirby. We humans tend to think we are the highest form of life in the universe. Therein lies the problem, said Beenan. Each form of life is different, not higher or lower. You call us a higher form of life, but we know of other life forms above us, with seemingly better qualities. All forms of life are perfect among themselves and different, not higher or lower than others. I think we got the message, said Kirby, remember we hooked up to-Main Storage ourselves. So you did said Beenan, but I do enjoy playing the role of the professor. Now that you are all so smart, who will I preach to? You'll find a way, chuckled Beem. This is appropriate though, that we should be getting ready to leave and at the same time, our students no longer need us, said Beenan. Do you know when exactly you are leaving, asked Cliff? Tomorrow evening at sundown, asked Beem? That sounds a little mellow dramatic, but why not? We will ride off into the sunset and all that, said Beenan. Isn't that how Hollywood would end an event like this? You got that right, replied Kirby, but they would have everyone in tears with a one liner for a finale, like who was that masked man? We shouldn't knock Hollywood, said Cliff, after all, if it wasn't for their movies, like Star Wars and Return of the Jedi, etc., people wouldn't so readily accept your large hairy bodies. Speaking of sunset said Bo, the sun set half an hour ago. I am going to enjoy my final night on this posture control mattress. Splendid idea, added Beem.
All three of them bid "good night" to Cliff and Kirby and headed upstairs to retire. Kirby and Cliff stayed a few minutes to clean up. Have you looked at your gift yet, asked Cliff excitedly? No, I forgot all about it. Let's get them. They both rushed to their bags, grabbed their square little gifts and returned to the kitchen table. Kirby opened his first. He patiently untied the ribbon. It wasn't made of any familiar materials. It felt waxy and was very strong. The wrapper looked like and acted like paper, but it too felt like wax. He put them aside thinking he would have them looked at, under a microscope very soon. The waxy material was also used as packing for the object inside. He pulled out a glass like object, shaped like Playland. It was complete in every detail. Will you look at this, said Kirby. It looks like a small replica of Playland. What's the big deal? I don't know, said Kirby, but I feel kind of funny. He put the cube down, the funny feeling went away. They both stared at it, as it just sat there on the table. What about yours, asked Kirby?
Cliff reached in and pulled out a small glass like replica of their life support sphere. Wow, he exclaimed, I see what you mean. He held the glass like object up to eye level. He examined it as closely as possible. It was a beautiful piece of artwork, right down to the tiny inhabitants, looking like himself and the rest of the group. He squeezed it gently in the palm of his hand. It felt like a surge of power passed through him. The power seemed to be trying to lift him off his feet. His mind seemed to be extremely alert and he sensed an awakening of his psychic powers. The toy seemed to be trying to move around inside his hand. I feel strange alright. He sat his sphere down on the table next to Kirby's cube. When you release it, that feeling goes away, said Cliff. Did you notice they have that same soapy feeling as the coffee table, etc., on Balenn? They both grabbed their gifts again, just to make sure. Wow, there's that feeling again, said Cliff. I wonder what it is.
They put their gifts back down on the table, as if they were hot. That is the strangest sensation I have had in a long time, said Cliff. There is more to this gift than what meets the eye. Do you suppose it gives you more strength, asked Kirby? Let's try it on this arm chair. I'll try to lift it with one hand. I know it's too heavy for one hand. He strained, but all he managed to do was lift the back legs off the floor. He grabbed his toy in the other hand and tried it. Sure enough, the arm chair lifted up like it was weightless. So it does give you more strength, Cliff suggested? I'm not sure, replied Kirby. Sure the chair rose effortlessly, but it didn't even make my muscle flex. It rose up on its own. That is odd, said Cliff. We'll have to wait and hear what the Ehesti have to say in the morning.
Mine is moving or something, said Kirby. So is mine, replied Cliff. They watched in amazement, as Kirby's Playland changed form, into the coffee table shape, that was on their trip. Cliff's sphere turned into a replica of Region Six. Now we have new toys, said Cliff. Maybe they only change shape, when exposed to light, said Kirby. Maybe if we put them back in their boxes, they will stop their activity. They returned their toys to their boxes and closed the lids. Let's wait a few minutes and see if they still change. They poured a little more hot chocolate. You know, I think these toys actually make happen what ever you are thinking, said Cliff, sipping his cocoa. That could very well be, replied Kirby. Aren't we flirting with danger, by not waiting for more information from the Ehesti?
The phone rang. Kirby grabbed it in the kitchen. It was Kelly. She was all excited. Did you check out your gift, she asked? It's Kelly. She's all excited about her gift, he whispered. Kelly! said Kirby loudly, put your gift down and then talk. What? Put your gift down. Okay, just a minute. Okay, it's down. I don't know what came over me. While I was holding the gift, it felt like it was charging me up, like a battery charger. I was sitting on the sofa, when I opened the box. I picked it up gently to inspect it, and a strange feeling came over me. I thought about phoning you guys or Allen and instantly, without moving a muscle, I was in this chair at the telephone. I moved about ten meters, just by thinking about it. These toys look simple enough, but they aren't. What does your look like, asked Kirby? It's just a glass miniature of the castle on Vilos. It has the same strange effect on us too, said Kirby. Put it back in the box and bring it over in the morning. I am sure the Ehesti will explain. Put it back quickly, before it changes. Too late, it's changing already, said Kelly. Now it's shaped like the stadium on Vilos. Okay, I put it back, said Kelly, but I am going to have trouble sleeping tonight. Sorry to have phoned so late. Goodnight. She hung up.
Well that confirms it, said Kirby. Kelly moved ten meters just by thinking about it, while she was holding her gift. These toys must give you the power to transfer your thoughts into results, without having to go through the action stage. You know what that means? What does it mean, asked Cliff? It probably means that we can transpose like the Ehesti do. It probably also means, that we will acquire the same powers as the Ehesti, by using these cubes. If that's true, said Cliff, than I can see why they were reluctant to let us bring back life forms from Balenn. I'll probably be able to transpose into the robot, without having it here.
I wonder if we will get a call from Sarah and Marie, said Cliff. Let's see if our toys have changed shape. No change; I guess you were right, said Cliff. They only change when exposed to light. We will find out for sure tomorrow. They finished their cocoa, cleaned up their mess and headed upstairs.
Kirby left his gift in the kitchen, but Cliff took his with him. He put it down on the lamp table, while he got into bed. Before he shut the light out, he decided to hold it one more time and try to identify what he was feeling. He pulled it out of the box. It hadn't changed shape since he put it away. He moved it out fast with just his finger tips. Nothing happened. He touched it with just one finger and still nothing happened. He touched it with his elbow and even bent over to touch it with his nose, but still nothing happened. Finally, he put it in the palm of his hand. There was that feeling again, only not so intense. While holding on to it, his mind went on to his hot chocolate. He wasn't sure if he had finished it or not. He heard a tinkling noise and there it was, sitting on his night table, steaming hot and ready to drink. He reached over and took a sip. It was real alright. The chocolate was the perfect temperature and just exactly as sweet as Cliff liked it. He took about ten minutes to finish drinking it and during that time the chocolate never lost its perfect temperature. He sipped the last bit in the bottom of the cup, which hadn't even cooled. This is incredible, he thought, I wonder how much more it can do.
Cliff took the toy back in his hand again and willed the cup back in the kitchen. It worked. The cup vanished. He put his slippers on and tip toed downstairs to the kitchen. There was the cup, sitting on the sink, still steaming. He had brought his toy with him in the box, so he might as well see if it does the dishes. He willed his cup cleaned and put away. Sure enough, there it was on the shelf, sparkling clean. Boy, this is great, he thought. This is a transposing tool. Now he was getting more confident in its use. If he could transpose the cup so easily, it would probably transpose him, without any more effort. Negative thoughts about finding himself lost after attempting to transpose himself, began to enter his mind. He chased away the negative thoughts as silly and decided to give it one short try.
Cliff put the toy in his hand again and willed himself back in bed. That worked too. He put the toy back on his night table in the box. By now, it had changed into a small replica of Region One. The shape of the glass buildings was almost exactly as he remembered it. The gift seemed to change shape every fifteen minutes or so. I wonder how many more changes it goes through, he thought. I'll just leave it exposed for a while longer, to see what comes next. He lay there waiting for the next change. He yawned and felt it becoming more and more difficult to keep himself awake. I'd better try this some other time, he thought. He put the gift back in its box for the night. He flicked off the light and went to sleep.
The sun rose on the following day at five thirty a.m. Bo sleeping in the east room woke up first. This is our last day, he thought to himself. He looked out the window. There was a slight breeze coming from the west. He stretched and sauntered down for a morning walk. On his way down, he passed through the kitchen, in case anyone else was up. There was no one there, but Kirby's gift was still on the table. So, they couldn't wait, he thought to himself chuckling. He picked up Kirby's gift. It was the same as the one they give to everyone that visits Balenn. Bo had seen many thousands of these gifts in the past. He still held quite vivid memories of some of the messes they created by people who had abused its power. The intent of the Ehesti was to give to those who visit Balenn, the power to return again, on their own. Along with that ability, goes the power to transpose. It was the transposing power, in the hand of a novice that created the problem. Bo put the toy back where he got it and headed outside. He left by the kitchen door and headed towards the ocean. The breeze was up to twenty knots and small whitecaps topped each wave. Bo could see a large freighter out in the bay, about two kilometers away. The ship was silver colored and it reflected the morning sunlight like a mirror. Bo sat down on one of the large rocks surrounding the flower garden. It was still cool from the night before. He focused more clearly on the ship. It was not a freighter, but an American war vessel. The name read "USS Madore". It looked like some kind of reconnaissance vessel, because there were no visible guns on it. Bo wasn't quite sure about how friendly the relations were between the United States and Canada, but he assumed they were friendly. The war vessel was probably just visiting and there was no cause for alarm. He focused on the vessel close-up again. He could see some activity on deck. A few people were moving about, performing various tasks. The sailor with the field glasses seemed to be looking right at Bo.
Bo was thinking of transposing himself onto its deck, when he was interrupted by Beem.
Beautiful morning, said Beem. Good morning to you, said Bo. I was just watching that American war vessel out in the harbor. Beem shaded his eyes with his hand. It sure looks like a war vessel alright, replied Beem. Further out to sea, there seems to be another ship heading this way. I was thinking of beaming aboard to see what they are doing here, but I remember Allen saying something about a welcome show for us, said Bo. These ships are probably part of that welcome. As long as we're not under siege, said Beem. I hate getting caught up in someone else's war. They both watched, as the vessels came within the range of human vision.
Beenan joined the group. I guess everyone is still asleep, said Bo, looking at Beenan? I think so, said Beenan. I can hear snoring coming from both rooms. I saw one of the gifts on the table in the kitchen also. I hope they haven't used them without knowing how, said Beenan. I remember only too well what happened on Cleo, when we first introduced this power to them. If we hadn't interceded when we did, they may have destroyed their entire planet. One of them, by the name of Hob, decided he would use his power to reduce the gravity on Cleo. The chaos he created was unbelievable. Had Rob waited for our instructions, none of that would have happened. Things seem to be okay here though, said Bo. Kirby probably just looked at it and hasn't tried it out yet. Beenan didn't reply.
Are you going back to Balenn tonight, asked Bo? I probably am, replied Beenan. What about you? I might stay with Beem on Mount Robson for a few days, he replied. You mean you can go back to Mountain Avers and Rose hips, after all this, interrupted Beem sarcastically? Why not, he replied, besides, I kind of miss talking and playing with the animals. The simple life forms, are the least complicated, and the most fun. I can transpose myself into a chipmunk and chase those little guys around for hours. I can transpose into a mule deer and fool around with the deer also. When it rains, we join our frog friends in the swamps and croak all night. It's all good therapy. It will do me good. You are some kind of weird Sasquatch, said Beem laughingly.
Kelly was woken up by a phone call. It was her boss at the Vancouver Press. Well, I hope you enjoyed you little holiday, he shouted, we phoned and phoned yesterday. Where were you? I was doing a story on the Ehesti. You know that. What's all the fuss? We get worried when we can't reach you Kelly, he replied. We thought you might be in trouble. It's sure nice to know that if I was missing you would come looking for me. In this case though, there was no need to panic. We were incommunicado for the entire day. Everything will be explained when you see the film and read my notes. Thanks for caring Alf. I have a story for you that will set your mind spinning, she said. First, I have to go back to the Crowley Mansion for the rest of the day. The Ehesti are going back home this evening. I will leave the film here for you to pick-up and process. I have enough new film to last me all day, so I won't be stopping in at the office. Bye-bye for now Alf. Okay Kelly, will you be at the same number today? Same place Alf, only this time, I'll be there, I think.
She looked down at her gift. It wasn't a dream after all, she thought. The phone had not waken anyone else, except her husband. Off to work so soon, he said groggily. Yes, she whispered. After today, it will be back to routine. Go back to sleep. I'll have the coffee ready in a jiffy. You're being awfully secretive about this story, he commented. You know I can't tell you about everything. After the story breaks, I'll fill you in on all the details. You might want to use it in one of your Science fiction stories. See you later honey, she said, as she dashed down the stairs and out the door.
Allen was up also. That was not too unusual for him. He hadn't even taken the wrapper off his gift yet, so he wasn't as enthusiastic as Kelly and the others. Sarah was still asleep and so was Marie. They weren't expected until nine a.m. or so. The next hour passed quickly, with Kelly weaving her way through traffic. Marie and Sarah, now awake, were going through their morning routine. The Ehesti were enjoying the morning air and Allen was just a few minutes away. It was a sunny, but smoggy day, in Vancouver. The temperature was plus seventeen Celsius and there was little or no wind. Kelly hit the traffic lights just right and gained five minutes on her normal traveling time. Allen was just a few cars behind her, but neither of them was aware of it. Sarah and Marie were just leaving, even though they were a little early.
Cliff and Kirby were awake. Kirby was in the kitchen already and Cliff was taking a shower. While he was showering, he thought to himself, why not just hold the toy and wish myself clean. No, that's overdoing it, he thought. I enjoy a shower and that would take away the pleasure. Come to think of it, there are all kinds of laborious activities I could eliminate with this toy, he thought. I don't even have to get out of bed, he thought. I can control everything from my bed, just by thinking about it. He thought again, about how good the shower felt and how good he felt after swimming and exercising. Using the gift, would take away all that pleasure from his life. He decided he would use his gift very cautiously. He didn't want it to deprive him of life's physical pleasures.
Kelly arrived at about six-thirty a.m. She was first to get there and the most anxious, to hear about her gift. She spotted the Ehesti out on the lawn, down by the water, so she didn't bother to go in. She headed straight for the beach.
The war vessel had come to within half a kilometer and it was now quite huge and sleek looking. Good morning Kelly, said Bo. We were just wondering about that American war vessel. Is there a war on? No, there is no war, she replied smiling. There is a big ceremony taking place though and that vessel is part of the festivities. We are not part of the festivities I hope, said Bo? Well maybe, said Kelly. You will have to talk to Allen, for more information. Speak of Diablo, said Beem, as he pointed to Allen's car pulling into the drive-way. Allen spotted them on the beach, so he headed directly down there himself. He still hadn't opened his gift, but he had it with him. He could see the activity out in the ocean and small groups of people were beginning to assemble along the beach. It was obvious, to Allen that the Ehesti had seen the war ships, and they were probably quite curious by now.
What's the story on that vessel, asked Bo? Its part of a welcoming ceremony for you guys, Allen replied. That vessel was off the coast of Victoria two days ago and it hung around to be part of the ceremony. Everything will take place out at sea, on an aircraft carrier, right in front of us here, on the water. People will be coming in to watch from the adjacent properties and beyond. This was all organized following your last interview Beenan. Most of the preparations took place yesterday, while we were away. I mentioned it to you a couple of times, but I guess it slipped your mind, said Allen. No I didn't forget, replied Beenan. I assumed we would be taken to a stadium for a few hours. I had no idea you were going to bring the show to us, on the water yet. This is even better, he replied. I can't think of a more pleasant surrounding to watch a show from. Should we get ready now? Or when will the show begin?
The show will not begin until ten a.m., so there is lots of time. I guess one more festival won't hurt us, said Beenan. He glanced at Bo and Beem for their approval. Life is just one festival after another anyway, said Beem. How philosophical you are getting these days, said Bo. It's that human influence, replied Beem. You know that saying, "You can tell the kind of man I am by the company I keep" Beenan laughed. I wonder if that applies to Bo and his numerous animal friends. Speaking of human influence, said Beem, are you planning to become the notorious "Fats" before we leave these people or are you going to transpose into human form at all? I haven't quite decided yet, replied Beenan, but I did promise earlier that I would enjoy one good meal with our hosts. I'll decide, later. He put his arms around both of them, like a good friend and urged them forward. Let's go inside.
The smell of fresh coffee and cinnamon buns, was escaping the kitchen. It was very enticing to Allen and Kelly, who had not had a very big breakfast. They arrived inside with the usual good mornings all around. Your breakfast sure smells good, said Kelly. Set yourselves down, replied Kirby and I'll get you a hot cinnamon bun and fresh coffee. Allen and Kelly sat themselves side by side. That was one of the strongest human senses that I missed, said Allen. The sense of smell has quite an influence on us. Kelly couldn't wait to ask Allen about his gift and she was about to, when Beenan spoke. I see you tried out your gifts, said Beenan, looking at Kirby. Okay, yes we did, said Kirby embarrassed, we opened them up just after you went to bed. I opened mine too, said Kelly, also embarrassed. I couldn't resist the urge. I hope you don't mind? I put it right back and I don't think 1 hurt it any. I don't think you need to apologize, said Kirby. The gift is yours personally and if it was so critical that we get instructions, the Ehesti would have made sure we got the instructions before we got a chance to use them.
Allen, you are the only one with any patience, said Kirby; where is yours? I've got it here, in my briefcase; he pulled it out. Well, go ahead and open it, said Kelly, anxiously waiting to see how Allen would react. He opened it up very carefully, as though he had all the time in the world. It was the same small crystal object, only his was shaped like one of those Vilos characters, with the big nose. He was sitting in his own sphere, just like the real thing. Allen went to pick it up. Wait just a moment, said Beenan. These are crystals from Balenn, to look at, but they are more. When you touch your own personal crystal, you are hooking up directly with the Main Storage you experienced on Balenn. Consequently, all the powers of our people become yours, but only as long as you hold the object. In other words, you can transpose any form of matter from one place to another, or from one time frame to another. You can also be in two or three places at once, if you wish. You can also change matter into any form you wish. If you get them mixed up, or if anyone else tries to use them, they will not work. Go ahead Allen and pick it up. Make a wish and see what happens. Allen opened the box carefully. I wonder what all the fuss is about, he thought. I don't see anything more than a cute crystal trinket. He picked up the crystal, gently, sitting it upright in the palm of his right hand. He felt a tiny tingle, but still nothing to fuss about. He squeezed the crystal hard.
Allen, being a very cautious person, wished only for the chair to move. It moved. Boy, do I feel strange, he said. He set the castle down quickly. The crystal began changing form, until it became a cube depicting Playland. The fact that they change shape shows you that they are activated. They can be de-activated any time from Balenn, said Bo. The activity and the thoughts of the holder of one of these gifts, is constantly being monitored in Region Three of Balenn. We didn't get to visit there, but you can see the Region when you visit again. The power to use the gifts is in you now, from your encounter with Main Storage. These crystals act as tools for you to use, in conjunction with your new power. Region Three decides when it is time to restrict your use of the gifts. They are simply de-activated, said Bo. Whether or not they are de-activated, depends entirely on the way you use them.
At the first sign of abuse, or if anyone else gets a hold of them, they will de-activate. Use your own discretion about this. How long can we use them, asked Cliff? Indefinitely, replied Beenan. You can use them to prolong your life, or change it or do nothing. The gifts will not be returned to Balenn, until you are ready to part with them. Why would we ever want to part with them, asked Allen? We have had many gifts returned for various reasons, said Beenan. Some people have trouble dealing with their new abilities. Some say the crystal ruined their marriage or it made them lazy. Many negative changes in the lives of the gift holders have been blamed on the crystals. Many attempts have been made to steal them, by those who didn't know that they only work for those who have visited "Main Storage". It takes a cool headed, honest person, to adjust to having all this power.
Cliff pointed out the window. One of the aircraft carriers was coming into view. It was about fifty times larger than the earlier ship. I still can't believe those huge expensive vessels came all the way up here, just for us, said Bo. The United States Navy is on a big publicity tour, replied Allen. That accounts for their being here. The show will be put on by Canadians. The ships will anchor out here for a day. If the Navy had not been around, we would have had a party for you on the grounds here probably. This way, using the ocean as a stage, many more people can watch the show. Many of them will be here to watch you too, said Allen, so don't forget to wash behind your ears, he chuckled. Maybe I should paste some stickers on my cut offs, said Bo, or better yet, print on a popular commercial name, like Bimbo's Car Wash or something. The doorbell rang. It was Marie and Sarah.
Beautiful morning, said Sarah. Did you open your gifts yet, asked Kelly? I looked at mine, but that's all, said Marie. It's a nice looking piece of crystal. I didn't take it out of the box, but I took a good look at it last evening. I noticed it change shape, so I assume it's some kind of magic toy that changes form every few minutes. Did everyone else get the same thing, or is it because I invent different toys, that I got a toy? Everyone received the same gift, replied Beenan. What about you Sarah, he asked? Have you seen your gift yet? I opened mine too, said Sarah and there is much more here, than just a piece of crystal. Beenan explained again to her, the powers that go with the crystal. He explained the connection with Main Storage and the proper way to use them and not abuse them. Marie and Sarah went through the same test as Allen had done earlier, only they used a smaller object to transpose. Marie moved a book and Sarah moved a picture. Now that you know what they can do, said Beenan, relax a few moments and imagine some of the uses you might put your crystal to. What about the shape changes they go through, asked Sarah? Why do they change so often? They will continue to change form, as long as they are exposed to light. They do not need light though, to work for you.
Why don't we all try an experiment, just to get you used to them, suggested Beenan. Pick up your crystal and concentrate on being in two places at once. Imagine yourself to be one of those super heroes in the comic books, who can be in two or three places at one time. You have seen how your cells reproduce by producing a duplicate within themselves. Your whole body is merely a collection of many of these cells and if they can separate individually, than you can do it too, only all at once. You don't need to understand it, as long as you can imagine it being done.
If everyone is ready, let's begin, said Beenan. Concentrate on sitting on the lawn, watching the ships and also concentrate on staying right here. Sarah was first to try. She held her crystal. Wow, I am outside here on the lawn. It works. Isn't it working, asked Cliff confused? It sure is, Sarah replied. Look out the window. Who is that on the lawn? Cliff tried it. See I told you it would work, she said, blocking the bright sun with her hand. Why aren’t you talking anymore Marie, asked Cliff? Oh, I am having trouble adjusting my brain to being in two places at once, but its working. While I'm talking to you, I am outside talking to Sarah. Take a look. Yea, said Sarah, I'm doing the same.
Kirby, Allen and Kelly tried it and soon they were having just as much fun talking about it outside, as they were, talking about it inside. This is terrific, said Kirby. Now we can be here for the show and for everyone to see, while doing what we want to, like in here. Who says you can't be in two places at once. The Ehesti don't need the crystal to do this, it is part of our natural ability, said Bo. I have been separated into thousands of clones at once, as have Beem and Beenan here. We learn to do this, as part of our growing process, just as you learn to swim or do arithmetic, etc. It takes practice at first, but the more you do it, the better you get at it. You mean we may be keeping company with only part of you, asked Marie? That's a possibility at any time with us, replied Bo. I hope that doesn't offend you.
You will find that you are not limited to only two places at once, said Beenan, but as many as you wish. Don't you lose something, by being split like this, asked Marie? Not really, said Beenan, you are a whole person, no matter how many there are. Like the worm cut into sections. Each section becomes a whole worm. That includes brain power and the thought process. Try to hear what I am saying to you outside, as well as what I am saying in here. It sounds like a person talking to me long distance. I can barely hear them, but you "can" hear them, said Kirby. I can hear all of you outside, as well as in here. Let's turn up the volume, by opening the window, said Kirby. He opened it. Now you can talk to yourself. Let's go outside and meet our counterparts, said Cliff.
They all joined on the lawn. It was like a reunion of twins. Each twin was dressed and sounded the same as the other. The few spectators, that had already gathered, were taking second looks. One of Allen's friends from the University, tried to get Allen's attention from behind the gate, when he spotted the second Allen. A bewildered look came over his face. He wasn't sure which Allen to call now. A closer look showed him that they all had doubles. What a neat gimmick, he thought to himself, not having a clue about what was really going on.
No introductions are necessary, but meeting your counterpart is weird, said Sarah to Sarah. Are you the good or the bad Sarah, she asked? We are both, she replied chuckling. Are you really me, she asked? Are you really me, her counterpart asked? If I will us back together, who will prevail, you or me? What if I will us back together, said her counterpart? Hold it, said Bo. We have been through all this before and the conversation can go on for hours. You will find it better when you are in two places at once, not to make those two places close together, like now. That way, you won't meet each other. When we are this close, there is no need to separate anyway. Let's all hold the crystal and resume our original position, as one, back inside.
Each person held their crystal. They did as Bo suggested and reformed back in the house. They were back in their original places from before they tried the experiment. I don't feel much different, said Kirby. I'm not sure if my counterpart thought different thoughts than me though. He looked at Beem, as if expecting an answer. When you are close together like we were today, you both think almost the same thoughts, because of the common influence of your surroundings. When you separate with greater distance between you, than you can each think different thoughts relative to your surroundings and your motives, said Beem. You don't loose the thoughts of your counterpart however, said Beem. The thoughts of your counterpart are implanted into your memory for future use, as needed. All that is missing is conscious memory of the counterpart. The separate conscious memories are what create the separate individual counterparts. Sub-conscious memory remembers everything thought and done by all the counterparts.
Boy, this sure makes a lot of things possible, said Kelly. Many times I have wished I could be two places at once. They were all thinking of how they could use this new gift. Allen was thinking of how he could help each individual student of his, by being able to personally help each one during the same class. Kirby was a little annoyed, because he couldn't remember the thoughts of his counterpart. It finally dawned on him, that all he had to do was squeeze the crystal and will the counterpart thoughts into his own mind and end of problem.
Everyone put down their crystals. The gifts were all undergoing metamorphosis again. They sure make beautiful crystal decorations, reflecting the light like a prism, as they change form. How many designs do they change to, asked Allen? Only ten, replied Beem. All of the forms are reminders of Balenn to you. To others of course, they are nothing more than art. While on the subject, Cliff, you wanted to know what, constitutes abuse?
If you were to use the crystal to perform every task for you, to the point where you became lazy and uncaring, that would be considered abuse and the power would turn off. If you interfere in a life and death struggle, using the crystal, that would also be considered abuse. Our main concern is that you do not interfere with the freedom of others, to live their lives, as they please. Try not to put yourself in a position where others ask you to use your crystal on their behalf. Once you start doing favors, the word will snowball and you will never hear the end of it. You will probably have to move.
Always use discretion, when using your crystals. You will find you can transpose others with you, as we did on our Balenn voyage, but never take an unwilling subject. That too, would be considered abuse. When traveling abroad, try to remember to take your passport and luggage, and don't transpose right into your hotel. Transpose to the airport and try to co-ordinate your time with the landing time of a jet, etc. The more you use discretion, the less attention you will draw. If you use your crystal to teach you another language, it will work instantly. Just concentrate on the language you wish to learn and it will do the rest. You can speak fluently in any language, thereby causing even less attention. The best way to travel is to speak the language of the country you visit and to dress according to the country's customs. The only way anyone will know of your crystal power, is if you demonstrate it to them.
You will be advised of the time and place of the next re-union of crystal holders. We meet periodically on Balenn, to feed Main Storage mostly, but we do have a lot of fun in the process.
What about if we transposed ourselves underwater, asked Kelly? Would we drown? Your crystal will not let you hurt yourself, so in that case, it would not work. You could transpose into a submarine or into a sea creature, but make sure there is a place to carry your crystal. If you transpose a long distance, like light years away, and your landing place turns out to be underwater or some other equally perilous situation, the crystal will transpose you to the nearest safe place. From there, you can decide how to reach your exact destination, if you still want to. It is best to protect yourself right from the start, by willing the crystal to protect you, until it receives your orders to stop. This way your body will be as invulnerable as ours are, for as long as you have the crystal.
What about money, asked Allen? We can obviously make lots of money using these crystals. Would that be abuse? Only if someone else suffered any kind of loss because of you. You cannot win a horse race, when someone else would have won, if you hadn't been there. You can't win even, at any form of gambling, because you are depriving the real winner of what is rightfully his. You could manufacture real money, but that wouldn't be right either. The best way is to find money.
There is money everywhere on this planet, hidden away by people who do not trust banks. Some of these people have been dead for hundreds of years, yet the money still remains hidden. Look for money of this type, with no attachments and no one will question it. If you still feel guilty, you can travel the astral plane and find the person who buried it. You mean we can all become filthy rich if we wish, asked Marie? Rich is a relative position, replied Beenan. You are already richer than ninety percent of the people on this planet. How rich is filthy rich? The word "filthy" signifies an attitude change, meaning money is now bad. Don't get so rich that you feel this negative change. You will all probably find out the hard way.
What I mean is; richness is not happiness. The richer you get, the less chance there is of making any new real friends. The people you meet will know of your wealth and seek to be your friend, in hopes of becoming rich themselves. The best way to be acceptable in your society is to assume the role of the middle income wage earner. Even though you acquire great wealth, if you maintain your middle income image and tell no one of your wealth, you can enjoy your life far more and make trusting friends as well. The display of wealth is intimidating to some.
Will this crystal ever fail us, asked Allen? It cannot fail more than we can fail, answered Beenan. At worse, you can be detained by those with the power to do so, but if that occurs, concentrate on Region Six of Balenn and the homing device will bring you to us. From there, you can proceed on your journey. When the crystal does not do what you request, it is for your own good. It may look like it is failing, but that is because you do not have as great a perspective about the repercussions of what you are doing, as do the controllers on Balenn. Whether the crystal works for you or not, it is acting in your best interest. That doesn't mean that the controllers on Balenn will be watching over you, like a mother hen, they have better things to do. If however, you do something abusive; their attention will be alerted to your situation. They will intercede only when necessary.
What about your powers of never getting killed and not being injured, asked Cliff? Do we have the same power? Yes, you can do all those things, including interrupting your own ageing process. You may alter your appearance any way you wish, and live in the same body for hundred's of years, if you wish. When you tell your crystal to protect you, remember it also has the power to change your present image and to slow down or speed-up the ageing process. You might want to ask it to slow down your ageing process at the same time, make you invulnerable. It will maintain that status until you give it orders to the contrary. The reverse is true also. If you wish to remain vulnerable and human in every way, than you will get into accidents and die just like everyone else. The choice is yours.
It is always best to avoid perilous situations, where you will need your new power. If you are going to exercise your new powers in public, it is better to transpose into another form like ours. People can relate to strange creatures with strange powers, but if one of their own demonstrates strange powers, it invokes fear. If you don't like the Ehesti look, try looking like Superman. People can relate super powers with Superman. Right on, said Cliff. There are a number of super heroes that have been in our comic books for years. We could become any of them. I could become Wonder Woman, said Marie, smiling. Flame on, said Kirby, as he fired a bolt of fire out from his fingers of one hand, while clutching his crystal in the other. Everyone broke into laughter at Kirby's antics and the thought of becoming comic book super heroes.
What if we lose the crystals or if someone steals it asked Kelly? If someone steals it, it won't work for them replied Beenan. As for losing it, the crystal cannot come back to you on its own. It can however, influence others to bring it to you. A dog may pick it up and carry it to a house, where the owner of the house feels compelled to take it somewhere else, until it finally arrives back in your possession. Whether it be lost or stolen, it will come back to you within fourteen days, usually sooner.
It is best to always keep the crystal out of sight, in your pocket or purse. Do not be afraid to swallow it, if need be. It will shrink in size, so you can take it like a pill. That way it is with you for sure, until it passes out in your solid waste. The low frequency horn blew on the aircraft carrier. It was time to begin the show.
