About Barb

Professional Qualifications

I earned a Master's degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of Victoria, and obtained an Advanced Bachelor's degree in Sociology/Communications from the University of Saskatchewan.

I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC), and a member in good standing with the British Columbia Clinical Counsellors Association (BCACC).

Areas of Expertise

My work with clients centres on relationships, assertive communication, grief/loss, depression and anxiety, coping with stress, life transitions, group therapy and improved self-esteem.

Counselling Approaches

I have trained in a variety of treatment approaches and the approach I select depends on the issues you as my client bring to the session. Examples of treatment approaches are: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Short-Term Solution Focused, and Existential, (the meaning behind the problem). I have also facilitated groups to deal with depression and self-esteem.

No matter what approach is used, I work with my clients' ability to tap into their own resources to find new solutions to old problems. I am a facilitator in this process, helping clients learn how their behaviours affect how they think and feel. Behaviour change is the key to resolving most issues.
