Canada Day 2000

About 500 people from our North Burnaby community joined us on July 1st to celebrate our nation's birthday at our Canada Day Carnival.  Thanks to all those who came and enjoyed the festivities with us!

The entire parking lot was set up with carnival games, prizes, a bouncy castle, popcorn, candy floss and lots of fun activities.   Kim, the life-sized "Raggedy Ann", provided face painting and created balloon hats. (There was a picture in the Burnaby Now, Wednesday, July 5th.) There were several "volunteers" for our dunk tank but our most popular victims were our pastor, Don (see picture below), and Craig Hendrickson, Offensive Lineman with the BC Lions!

Several bands provided us with live music throughout the day.  Our thanks to Brenda Lui, His Majesty's Service, The Thomas Trio, Kanasia and Friend, and Chris Janz and his band!  Chris is the son of Paul Janz who has had various radio hits such as "Believe in Me", "Every Little Tear" and "Amazon Rain". Chris put on a wonderful performance of several songs from his soon-to-be-released CD.  The rain almost canceled his performance but the storm held off until the last song of his set.

Everyone had their fill of hotdogs served up by church volunteers and/or pizza from the Boston Pizza tent.  The serving of the Canada Day cake was also delayed by the rain but many people braved the shower and enjoyed a yummy slice of a VERY, BIG "Canadian flag" cake. Many people had a part in making this day special.  Craig Hendrickson took time out from moving to join us for a few hours.  Our local MP, Sven Robinson, dropped by to hand out Canadian Flag pins.  St. John's Ambulance volunteers were on hand to provide medical assistance throughout the day.  A big thanks to these people and all the MANY volunteers that made this a great day for everyone.
