Happy Birthday Canada!

About 800 friends and neighbours from North Burnaby joined us for a day of entertainment, games and delicious food to celebrate our country's birthday.

We enjoyed a beautiful, sunny day.

This was a great relief for all our dunk tank victims who suffered through the chilly temperatures last year.

Near the end of the event, neighbours who had come to enjoy the celebration were volunteering to be dunked just to cool off!

There was lots of food available throughout the day.  There were hot dogs, drinks and a variety of Korean dishes available by donation.  Boston Pizza wasn't able to join us as advertised but Papa Joe's stepped in and sold wonderful, big pizza slices with lots of toppings and cheese. Mmmmmm!

No carnival would be complete without popcorn and candy floss.  It was only 25¢ and the crowd must have loved it because we ran out of both of them right at 5:00pm!

The bouncy castle was great fun for kids and adults alike.  Not many adults decided to try it, but those who did realized after about 5 bounces that only kids have enough energy to keep bouncing for 5 MINUTES!
There were several new games this year.  At "Shooting Stars", participants could practice their shooting accurracy by firing Nerf darts at starry targets.   The little kids (and some adults) enjoyed playing in the sand at the "Beach Party" sandbox.

And we can't forget the "T.P. Toss" which was ridiculously fun.  It's the only place where it's okay to throw the whole toilet paper roll in the toilet!

There were over 40 lucky folks who walked away with prizes including a silver bracelet from Robert Gish Jewellers and a Sanyo DiskMan from Sears.  Our thanks to the following companies:

ABC Country Restaurant Garden Works Robert Gish Jewellers
Bagel Street Cafe Hastings Bowl Safeway
BC Lions  IHOP Sears
Brava Hair Design Lions Gate Hospital Sun Spa Tanning
Brentwood Lanes Polaris TELUS Mobility
Burnaby Bulldogs Quiznos Valley Bakery
Cactus Club Regis Hairstylists WHL Vancouver Giants
Eaton Centre Remember Me Scrapbooking Zellers

And we especially want to thank Polaris for donating all the bottled water for the event!!!

The entertainment was wonderful. "The Amazing Sling" kept us amused and amazed with his comedy and juggling act.  He ended his act with some amazing plate spinning and fire juggling that showed off his 17 years of experience!
Raggedy Ann and a very strange looking clown made balloon bunny rabbits for whoever needed a pet.  The clown (who prefers to remain nameless) said that he just started making cats and dogs cause they were easier!?
Perry and the Poorboys did a great job leading us in the singing of the National Anthem.  They also performed a variety of songs from the 7 albums they have recorded through the years.  They showed their musical talent as well as their sense of humour.  Some songs had an intense combination of electric and acoustic sound as well as a strong Christian message.  Perry also threw in some humourous songs to make the crowd laugh and sing along.  The little kids in the crowd enthusiastically joined in on a rocking version of "The Insy Weensy Spider".
Nine separate flat cakes, 35 pounds of strawberries and hours of hard work went into the making of this Canadian flag cake.  Not only was the flag design amazingly accurate but It was absolutely delicious!
Oh Canada.....!

We hope that everyone had as much fun as we did.  It was a beautiful day and a happy celebration to share together.  Thanks to all our neighbours who joined us and we hope to see you again soon!
