     James became a Reverend. His body was interred at Leonard Family Cemetary. James was born on 5 May 1796. He was the son of Joseph Rose and Catherine (Bausman) Bowsman. He married Catherine Warnstuff Vansturf at Monroe Co., Virginia, USA, on 4 March 1817. Marriage recorded at Monroe County, Book F2, page J1736.. James died on 25 May 1840 at Brown Co., Ohio, USA, at age 44.

     Charles enlisted in the War of 1812 with Capt. John Crow. He was drafted at Monroe County, Virginia in 1814. His description at enlistment: age 16 years, quite small of that age, black hair, black eyes, appoints H.C. Miller of Jackson, Ohio power of attorney.

According to a letter written Jan 15, 1922 by Winfield S. Rose, Frances was a teacher. Charles secured the "rudiments of an education and taught school". They had 16 children. This letter also states that later Charles lived mostly with William H.H. Rose, his son, but also with others from time to time. He "always carried a roll of money up to his death and as he gave me my name, 'Winfield Scott', I seemed to be a favorite with him and was presented with numerous small coins greatly to my delight". The account continues, "Grandfather Charles Rose also related to me stories of his travels to Cynthiana, Kentucky to visit kinpeople of the same name but I was too young to take any interest in the relationship further than that they were also of the name Rose." The letter also recounts that Charles went on a trip back to Botetourt County, Virginia to visit his kinfolk.

Frances divorced Charles on March 24, 1855 in Jackson County, Book G pp. 444-445. She received land and custody of the minor children. He later moved to Scioto County, Ohio. Charles was born at Greenbriar Co., Virginia, USA, in 1800. He was the son of Joseph Rose and Catherine (Bausman) Bowsman. He married Francina Ann Harless at Giles Co., Virginia, USA, on 24 August 1819. Charles died on 5 March 1881 at Scioto Co., Ohio, USA.

     Her body was interred at Liberty, Jackson Co., Ohio, USA, at Pleasant Grove Cemetary. In the 1860 census Frances at 58 is listed as a farmer in Jackson County. Silvester 21, William 19 and Roda 14 were living with her.

In 1870 and 1880 she was at the home of her daughter, Comfort Hill in Jackson county.

Francina was born at Giles Co., Virginia, USA, on 1 March 1802. She was the daughter of Ferdinand Harless and Frances Duncan. She married Charles C. Rose at Giles Co., Virginia, USA, on 24 August 1819. As of 24 August 1819,her married name was Rose. Francina died on 24 May 1880 at age 78.

     Martha was born at Monroe Co., Virginia, USA, in 1815. She was the daughter of Joseph Rose and Karon Terry. She married Minor Copeland on 2 September 1831. As of 2 September 1831,her married name was Copeland. Martha Rose witnessed the census 1850 - free of Minor Copeland; He was a farmer. I was quite pleased to see my Terry lineage published in the December 1984 issue of the Terry Family Historian. Thanks also for your editor's note. However, I was aware of the Jasper Terry will in Montgomery County, Virginia. The problem there is that the wife mentioned is not the mother of the children;, but a widow Jasper married sometime after their births. Jasper was married three or possibly four times and it hasn't been proven which wife or wives were the mothers to the children. Maybe someone else has some information that will bear on this, but so far everyone I have contacted seems to be unsure. I am enclosing a copy of the Jasper Terry will, transcribed to the best of my ability from my copy. You will
notice that the third daughter mentioned is not Karen Happuck, but Karon Happuck Rose. She was married to Joseph Rose 21 Dec 1813 in Montgomery County, VA. The unusual first name, Karonhappuch, is probably what caused the confusion. Jasper named his three daughters after Job's three daughters in the Bible (see Job 42:14). I obtained much of this information from Mrs. Jean Deweese Cordts, so I'm not sure exactly how the mix-up came about on the name of Karonhappuch Rose. This may or may not be of help, but I thought you'd want to keep your records straight.

     Abraham was born at Pennsylvania, USA, in January 1796. He was the son of Jacob Wolfe and Mary Elizabeth unknown. He married Margaret Caldwell at Botetourt Co., Virginia, USA, on 13 June 1813. He married Hester H. Terry on 17 February 1848. Abraham died on 25 March 1861 at Alleghany Co., Virginia, USA, at age 65.

     Possible siblings were Stephen, Sarah, Mary, Hugh, Henry, Ruth, Elizabeth, Eunice, James. Margaret was born at Botetourt Co., Virginia, USA, circa 1795. She was the daughter of Hugh Caldwell and Ruth Holstein. She married Abraham Wolf at Botetourt Co., Virginia, USA, on 13 June 1813. As of 13 June 1813,her married name was Wolf. Margaret died before 1841.

     Elizabeth was born in 1819. She was the daughter of Jacob Persinger. She married William Washington Rose on 4 June 1846. As of 4 June 1846,her married name was Rose. Elizabeth Jane Persinger witnessed the census 1860 - free of William Washington Rose; He was a farmer. Elizabeth Jane Persinger appeared on the census of 1880 in the household of William Washington Rose at Boiling Spring District, Alleghany County, Virginia, USA; His occupation was sherriff. Also listed on the census was a cousin, Joseph Rose, 13 years old. Elizabeth died on 25 February 1906 at Covington, Covington Co., Virginia, USA.

     She never married. Keziah was born at Alleghany Co., Virginia, USA, on 14 December 1847. She was the daughter of William Washington Rose and Elizabeth Jane Persinger. Keziah Ann Rose witnessed the census 1860 - free of William Washington Rose; He was a farmer. Keziah died on 29 May 1876 at Alleghany Co., Virginia, USA, at age 28.

     Robert was a commissioner of Alleghany County. Robert was born at Alleghany Co., Virginia, USA, on 14 September 1857. He was the son of William Washington Rose and Elizabeth Jane Persinger.      Harvey Edward Rose was the son of William Washington Rose and Mary Miller. Harvey Edward Rose was also known as Harry.

     Ada died. Ada was born at Alleghany Co., Virginia, USA, circa 1870. She was the daughter of James Nida and Francis unknown. She married William Washington Rose at Alleghany Co., Virginia, USA, on 18 September 1890. As of 18 September 1890,her married name was Rose (Byer).

     He married Francis unknown.

     She married James Nida. Her married name was Nida.

     Jacques Catudal was the son of Jacques Catudal dit St-Jean and Marie-Genevieve Villemaire. Jacques died. He married Marie-Archange Paquet-Lavallee on 7 October 1793.
