These are drawings of my dogs, Cassie and Molly. Cassie is a black and white Border Collie, whose birthday is October 27. She was slightly upset that Molly, our other dog, got space for her birthday on August 26. To appease her, John drew her picture. Molly successfully lobbied for her own picture and I drew one.
In case you can't tell, Molly is a brown and white Bearded Collie, with one blue and one brown eye. Anyone who has met her will understand the picture. In many ways Molly is a state of mind, as well as a physical presence. Both our dogs have serious addiction issues. Cassie is obsessed with tennis balls and frisbees. Normal for a hard-working Border Collie. But Molly's obsession is... cats. Not to eat or chase, but to follow and worship. She is a weirdo, making stalking into an art. She will accept movie offers via her agent and turned her energies over to convincing us to get her a scanner, so she can post a "realistic" picture. She, of course, got her way.
Why is she running? Either because she saw a cat, or someone was looking at my fish tanks. She is very jealous of the fish! Cassie is only interested in the fish when they get fed frozen brine shrimp, although I have noticed that she has started licking the tops of the flake containers... ![]()

Cassie and Molly have a complex relationship. Cassie was just really not sure she needed a sibling. Here she is just after we told her about Molly. This is her offended look. It is also her "majestic" look, according to John.
She was probably right to be concerned, since Molly is definitely, shall we say, a princess. The dynamic of the relationship was set early on.

Luckily, Cassie is quite patient.

Cassie likes her ball. She likes it almost 24 hours a day. If no one will throw it, she takes it up the stairs, drops it and then runs after it. We think this is a good thing. Guests learn quickly that touching the ball once obligates them to play for the duration of their visit. Cassie is very strict about this rule.
Despite their differences, Cassie and Molly do share many interests, some of which are cheese, going for walks, salmon, going in the car, whipped cream, throwing up at 4 am, cream cheese, barking for no reason when I am at home alone, geophysics, meat of any type since we are vegetarian, and of course, ...
...sleeping. For John's take on our dogs...
