Screenwriting Teacher

The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron

Cameron reminds us to take care of our inner artist! We often spend more time on the exterior than the interior artist! I love the spiritual path it takes to help us understand our creativity. I feel reading this book is particularly helpful for the new writer.

The following are sites and books for the screenwriter.

These are great for background reading, but I would caution that the best way to

learn about writing is to write.

Anything By William Goldman:

“Adventures in the Screen Trade”, “Which Lie Did I Tell?”, “More Adventures in the Screen Trade” and “Four Screenplays”.  Goldman’s most famous screenplays are "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid", "Misery", "The Princess Bride" and "Marathon Man".

The Script is Finished, Now What Do I Do? by K. Callan

A truly fun book that helps a screenwriter work through the 'next step' of marketing and getting an agent.

Anything By Syd Field

I recommend reading Syd Field for screenwriting basics, especially if you have a logical mind. His work is an excellent primer.

The Writers Store

This full service online shop for writers is great.  If you need anything from the right sized brads to a copy of one of the above books,  you can order it from here!  Also, if you’re in LA, you can visit them.

Biz Books

It’s great to be able to go and actually browse a film & tv industry store.  This small store in Vancouver is packed full of great film books and software.  They also have an online shop.
