Canadian Sites for Teachers

History of the Hudson Bay CompanyGood historical information.  Interesting pictures, photographs, stories and facts.
Canadiana On-LineAn excellent resource about the fur trade era and the influence of the Hudson's Bay Company.  There are time-lines, historical information, teacher resources including lesson plans and worksheets, links and much more.  
CBC for KidsThe Canadian Broadcasting Corporation has this site for kids where they can read the news, enter contests, read stories, find sites and information on science and other subjects, enter polls and much more!
Can-Teach - A Canadian Educator's SiteThis site has a focus on finding the best Canadian content educational sites.  Has a nice section on poems too.
The League of Canadian PoetsCheck here for information on how to celebrate poetry in the classroom as well as for your own interests.  Invite a poet to your school for a workshop and reading.  Create a display featuring your favorite poetry.  Hold a classroom or school-wide poetry writing contest.
The Canadian EncyclopediaAnother great resource for teachers as well as students.  Search for specific items or just look through the site.  There are facts, interactive maps, quizzes and more.

Civilizations.caThis page has a lot of information on the history of the native peoples of Canada
Aboriginal Affairs and Northern DevelopmentThis is the Canadian Government department.  At the web site you can find information on programs, history, culture as well as publications.
Head Smashed In Buffalo JumpLocated in Southern Alberta, close to Lethbridge, this interpretive center tells the history of the Blackfoot people. It is renowned world-wide as the world's oldest, largest and best preserved buffalo-jump.  The 10 million dollar center is filled with archaeology and history.  
People of the Northwest CoastThis is a nice site, the information is brief but easy to read for students and the photographs offer another look at our history.
Alberta First Nations This site gives you contact information on many of the first nation groups in Alberta.  At the bottom of the page you can link to other provinces as well to find out about the first nations groups in those provinces.
First Nations SeekerThis site has links to many of the First Nations groups across Canada as well as the States.
Canada's First NationsThis website is part of a project done by the University of Calgary and Red Deer College and has detailed information on Canada's First Nations.
The Métis Nation of AlbertaThis site is dedicated to Métis who live in Alberta.  The site has a link to the Métis National song.  There are links to history, culture and more!
The Kid's SiteThis section is about the Métis and is suitable for students grades 4 to 6.

Free stuff for Canadian Teachers A great site, so many of the "freebie" sites are only for the States.  This site features "freebies" available in Canada.  There are sections for most provinces as well. 
Teacher's Distribution CenterThe purpose of the Distribution Center is to provide schools with the benefits of large volume purchases. One small elementary school has the buying power of hundreds of schools.
Scholastic CanadaThis site has on-line catalogues, book clubs as well as general resources.
Timesavers for TeachersThis site offers a large number of forms and teaching ideas you can purchase.  There are free sample forms as well.
