Pre- and Post- Challenge Details
As many of the participants may have family considerations,
the UCC has hoped to make this a family-friendly event. Given the
extended travel distance for many participants, it will be necessary to
provide activities for the family during, before, and after the event
days. Come for three days or plan to stay a week- you will not be
disappointed.
The Tatlayoko Valley provides numerous opportunities for
camping- either at the Mueller Ranch or the Recreation Site along the
Lake. Amenities are limited: The closest grocery store is in Williams
Lake- an 8 hour round trip, so stock up before you leave town.
Additional family oriented activities include:
- - Fishing – from Tatlayoko to Fish Lakes to Chilko River – lots of Rainbows to be had.
- - Hiking – some spectacular day hikes for those spouses that didn’t get to participate in the race.
- - Side trips to Chilko River/Lake – the Fraser’s biggest salmon spawning will be in season complete with silver-tipped grizzlies and even a bear researcher or two.
- - Single engine Cessena 185 flights around the Homathko Icefield and Mt. Waddington can be arranged for a once in a lifetime experience.
- - Beach camping on the wild west side of Tatlayoko Lake.
- - Spectacular fall colour if the weather cooperates.
- - Horses, canoeing, lakes, and all the space you need to wear the kids out by noon.
