CALGARY JAPANESE COMMUNITY RESPONDS

TO EARTHQUAKE TRAGEDY

Calgary, AB, Canada March 14, 2011 -- The Calgary Japanese Community Association and its members are deeply saddened by devastation that has taken place in Japan and offers its heartfelt condolences to all of those who have been affected by the earthquake and resulting tsunami. The CJCA urges everyone to offer their support for the victims of the disaster through continued donations, support for those that are seeking loved ones and friends, and assistance to residents of Japan that are stranded in Canada.

"The true magnitude of the devastation caused by the earthquake and tsunami will not be fully known for a long time. However, we are overwhelmed by the tremendous generosity of Canadians and their expressions of concern and support", says Rocky Oishi, President of the CJCA.

The CJCA is organizing a number of fund-raising activities and events to help raise money for the cause. The first of these will occur on Saturday, March 19, 2011 - An Open House in Support of Japanese Earthquake/Tsunami Victims, at our cultural centre located at 2236 - 29th Street SW from 9 AM to 5 PM. This event will feature exhibitions of Japanese culture, refreshments and a guest book that can be signed with expressions of support.

In the mean time, for those that want to make a donation to the relief efforts, we encourage donations to any one of the relief agencies that have already mobilized, such as the Canadian Red Cross. We are currently investigating the possibility of making donations directly to support organizations in Japan, should individuals be interested in contributing in that manner.

The CJCA would like to offer our assistance to anyone in Canada that have not been able to contact relatives or friends or those that may not be able to return to Japan. We are here to provide support for those that are in need, especially visitors or temporary residents from Japan. We encourage those that need help or support to contact us at (403) 242 4143.
