Peace
I was doing some reading and research on Isaiah 2:1-5 for the ministerial service on Sunday night, when I came across notes about the scripture verses found outside the United Nations building in New York City. On one wall Isaiah 2:4 is quoted and elsewhere is a statue called "Swords and Plowshares referencing Micah 4:3, a passage which parallels the Isaiah passage. The Isaiah 2:4 and Micah 4:3 passages say:
"He will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore."
Why does it feel like we don't take these scriptures (or the United Nations for that matter) seriously? I don't in any way mean for this entry to be an anti-military rant, that's not the point. But shouldn't it strike us that in New Testament times so many Jews were ready for military action in order to return God's order and God choose to send a baby into the world to solve everything?
