The Poetry of Daniel Harrison

The Oath of Duke Henri

Damned be the arrogant 'Renaissance men'
Who tilt vulgar crystals heavenward
Taking blasphemous gaze upon their Lord

Then with accursed sceptres reversed
Peer yet deeper into sacred spheres
To violate again his divine clockworks

We will suffer not these insolent fools
Crimson on fleece of lamb shall purge
This genesis of malignant mayhem

To no sanctuary will the pious retreat
But instead build thee a rack upon the square
Where thy holiness may cleanse his flock

Upon the broken backs of these heretics
He shall banish both infinite and void
From the radix of his perfect globe
