Big Melt
Everybody's in future shock
Nobody is panic free
I hear the tick of the doomsday clock
And its bothering me
The weatherman says he's not joking
But I'm a glutton for gasoline
Now we've got another forest smoking
A disappearance of green
Big rock! Spinning in the black of space
Soaking up the burning sun
A hothouse home for everyone
Big shock! I saw it on the planet face
Its really time you people changed
(But I just want to stay the same)
There's a river that's flowing backward
And a jungle went desert quick
There's a mess in my country's backyard
And its making me sick
We've got a mountain of techno-hardware
In an ocean of expertise
(We got 'em working on viral warfare)
Until the polar unfreeze
Big melt! I saw it in a vivid dream
Standing in the acid rain
But I could not feel the pain
Dry Belt! I read it in a magazine
The saddest thing I'd ever seen
Off someplace I've never been
Well you know its the same old story
A lot of people with mouths to feed
The war babies are in their forties
Another vanishing breed
They've got a fear about fornication
(You never know where they've been)
So now they do it by simulation
And its never unclean
Big shock! I saw it on a TV show
The ranter with his wrathful God
Extracting cash from underdogs
Tick-Tock! (Any minute now its gonna blow)
And when the smoke and chaos clears
We'll count another billion years
