The Poetry of Daniel Harrison

Incubus Proximate

You are waking as a citizen cancelled
All inherited rights
Taken flight in the night

Freedom flags are at immediate standstill
Camera trained upon you
With an infra-red view

In your possession is a dissident handbill
Agents planted on you
There’s explaining to do

But in a nation headed savagely downhill
Any sentence you speak
Is a security breach

To bring militia boots over your doorsill
Army trucks are outside
Soccer stadium ride

Down the highway of dictatorship road kill
Your expendable son
On his way to become

A night deposit in a government landfill
Among a cousin or two
With a bullet straight through
