Cardboard Nest Box
Up

I use cardboard boxes as nest boxes for my tiels. I buy 12"x12"x12" size boxes. I use tape (i.e. duct tape) to enclose the box. I cut a flap on one side for peeking and an entrance hole where I'll need it. To attach the box to the cage I use cable ties (zip ties). I also like to use self adhesive Velcro strips for the flap so that I can easily open and close it.

It's a good idea to reinforce the bottom of the boxes with a couple more pieces of cardboard in case you have a chewer. It's normal for them to chew around the entrance hole but you have to watch that they aren't chewing else where. I had a male tiel who would chew through the bottom of the box no matter how much cardboard I reinforced the box with. I quickly solved that problem by duct taping a lid from the cat litter pail to the underside of the box.
