The Airedale Terrier has always been a major player in the world of dog shows. Winning a class, finishing a championship or attaining one of the top honors at speciality shows are highly sought after goals for serious afficionadoes.

Quite different from conformation shows, obedience trials are another field in which many Airedales excel. Dogs competing in obedience trials are there to be judged on the performance of certain prescribed exercises, not on appearances. Most obedience trial dogs are pets being shown by their owners. Unlike conformation, spayed or neutered dogs are welcome. Obedience Airedales can be shown in pet trim or no trim at all. A fair number of show dogs, including champions also compete in obedience. it is truly the exceptional Airedale that earns both a championship and an obedience title.
