John Durning is a member and director of both the Adams River Salmon Society and Chase Rotary. He moved to Canada from Scotland in 1973 and loves the outdoors. With his wife Debbie and daughter Natasha (oops, don't forget the cat!) he now lives near Shuswap Lake, a place of natural beauty that brings inspiration to John's work. His strong belief in wildlife conservation and preservation is reflected in their themes.

John spends many hours on the beach and in the hills around home searching for distinctive, unique piace of wood to incorporate into his carvings and furniture. In the spring he walks the bush in search of antlers shed naturally by moose and deer.

Lucky for him he doesn't depend too much on reference books, but rather use of memory to portray the subject he wishes to carve. One of the most important things to remember is "Never to give up and that everyone's interpretation is different."
