Now mostly done with the computer and the program called "Get It On CD".
Someone comes in usually on Mondays (Ross) and does the master tape duplication.
The MASTER /Original tapes are placed on the counter in front of the video switcher, after they are labeled.
The INPUT to the DA-88 from the board goes from CH 25-32 INSERTS First row above the channel strip. (Use trim/gain to control levels to the recorder).
The signal GOES OUT from the DA-88 (OUTPUTS), into the board LINE IN CH-1-8. (Row 3).
So, in order to use these for duplication, the Mic/line switch has to be in the LINE position (Down).
NOTE: The HHB gets its digital signal from the DAT DA 30 MK II. (Goes from the DAT output into the digital input on the HHB (AES/EBU). The HHB CD-burner's input is set to analog.
Insert a new Maxell CD (upside down).
Push record (It goes into pause automatically)
Locate a spot on the DA-88 tape that you want to start at, using the shuttle (First you have to push the little button underneath it).
Press MEM To Memorize this position using one of the two memory buttons on the DA-88. So now to return to that spot, push LOC1 on the DA-88.
Place all subgroup faders DOWN. Use the MASTER VOLUME for your master levels.
Now, if you want to record one particular channel, say CH 8 on the DA-88, (Which is Henry) have all faders down except CH 8.
Push play on the DA-88 and Pause on the HHB to start recording to the CD. Watch the levels on the HHB, don't let them override, or it will turn out BLAHHH!
INSERTING THE PRE-RECORDED MESSAGE
Jayson says this should only be used for the "Real MASTER" CD. This way we know if the tape or CD is mastered or not. This should not be done for duplications of the live recording from the weekend. We don't do it on the tapes and so to keep things consistent we don't do it on the CD's.
To accomplish this you must PAUSE the CD burner, then change the INPUT SELECTOR to DIGITAL 2. This enables the signal to be taken from the Marantz CD player under the DA-88. (There is no need to patch these using the patch cables on the patch bay, in fact if you do it could cause problems). The CD WITH THIS MESSAGE is a Master CD and has ENDING...located on track 10. Use a separate TRACK for this. Go to track 10 then pause. Then hit Pause on the HHB at the same time as Pause on the Marantz. I suggest you use earphones on the Marantz deck so you know when the track starts and stops playing.
When it finishes, you need to push Stop on the HHB, then the FINALIZE button...when the number comes up to TOC -405...Hit PAUSE and it will verify and finish the CD. (Takes 4 min). The little CD-R light goes out and it goes into stop mode. (See page 27 of the manual).
NOTE: If you have been recording the Worship music, and you need to switch to another CD rapidly, you can STOP the burner and "Finalize" the CD later. You dont have time to finalize now or chances are you will miss getting the start of the message on the new CD. (Experience talking here!!!)
To Format a DA-88 Tape (See Page 13 of the manual)
Switch power on to the DA-88.
Load a 126 min tape in. Rewind.
Press Format. Its LED will start blinking.
Press Format again. Its LED will turn on solid, showing that the deck is ready for formatting.
Press Fs switch to select either of the 2 sampling rates. We pick 44.1 if it is used as a digital master.
Hold record and press play to let formatting start.
When it reaches the end it will automatically rewind and stop.
