The Main Cassette Tape Recording Deck
The Tascam 302:

Located over the Sound-Board, it has two slots. Tape 1 on the left is the one you insert the 90 min leaderless (clear) tape into (Usually). Tape 2 is for the 60 min leaderless (clear) tape.
Jayson's Method:
Put tape in backwards, Rewind.
Note that the numbers even on two 60 min tapes will vary. (So you end up with maybe 32.40).
Push play for 10 seconds to take into account the leader. (If one is there).
Stop...Push Record/Pause to get levels.
Push Play to start recording.
When it gets past the 1.00 mark, wait for a pause in the dialogue and then hit the OTHER play button to reverse the tape.
Make sure you hit the write button on the CD burner at the same time. Makes it easier for the Master Duplicators.
Hit, "RECORD/PAUSE" AT THE SAME TIME (You can now see and set the levels on the VU meter). . then to start THE RECORDING, you can hit "pause, or play" but if you hit play be sure you hit the RIGHT one, or the tape will think it is recording in the opposite direction, and will not start. (I learned this from experience). (Luckily I didnt do it to both decks at the same time, and I did it to the 60, which would have been a disaster if the message had been longer.)
Check that the record levels on the machine are peaking properly at the red line, on the VU meter, located on the deck itself. They seem to want lots of RED line, as they need the levels for the duplicator.???? Note: the level controls for each deck are separate, these are not channel levels!
So if the message will fit on the 60 (Which it usually does, ...it then becomes the one we use to duplicate). It is labeled with a small white label, (Also found by the tape labels). It is to say the DATE and TIME ,, and the length of the tape i.e. 60 or 90. If it fits on the 60 min tape write that on the white board.
It makes it easier when you are in a hurry to duplicate if it is written on the label. After your duplication run, it is placed on the bench in front of the video switcher. (So the person who does the REAL Mastering on Mondays can locate them).
NOTE: If you are recording on deck 2, and you think you can rewind deck 1, think again.... You can do it the other way though. (The signal goes through deck 1 to get to deck 2. So you need to have Deck 1 on Rec/Pause at least to be able to record on Deck 2. For example when you are recording the worship service on Deck 2, and leaving Deck 1 for the sermon.
These controls should not be moved
